Full Version: D.J Interviews
Dj's United > "TALKING SHOP" > D.J and Karaoke Chat

Professional Mobile Disco & Wedding Disco
Chrispy
Okay, On the "Site Suggestions" thread it was mentioned that we should have a "Spotlight on....." thread, where we asked one of the veteran D.J's ( picked every month) some questions about his / her career and they could answer them on the forum.

I think this is a good idea, not only will it enable us (nosey) ones to find out more about the D.J behind the Alias, but will give the newbies some useful information.

The questions could be along the lines of "How did you get into D.J'ing" and "Who was your biggest influence", "Where was your first gig and how did it go" - that sort of thing and NOT anything too personal or to do with Bra Sizes !!!!! 221.gif wub.gif

Right first off all we need somebody to set the questions....any volunteers? - or do I have to go and pick on somebody?

Chrispy
Is that an offer to volunteer as questionmaster Ads???

Chris - You picked the right moment to go on holiday! tongue.gif
Gary
I'll volunteer, but it'll probably be tomorrow that I get a chance to write anythng up.

Any specific questions ?

YourBigEvent
I'd answer ANY question !! blink.gif
Chrispy
Okay Cheers Gary

So first candidate for this month is Ads answering a set of questions set by Gary.

Sorted smile.gif
YourBigEvent
Chris

Do you want Gary to PM me the question and I'll cut and paste and put the answers in, or is there another way ?
Chrispy
Whichever is easiest...hmmm Gary could either post up the questions and then you post your answers below and either Gary or myself will close and pin the topic or he can P.M you the questions and you can cut and paste both questions and answers in your own thread?.

Maybe the last one would be easier so questions and answers would appear on the same thread at the same time.
YourBigEvent
Bring them on
Gary
Well, I guess that the first question has got to be:

Where did you get that animated Avatar of Kazzachi??? and have you got the rest of it?

I think that perhaps we shouldnt get our first victim...sorry, interviewee to answer any questions until tomorrow, that way most members will be able to add their own questions to the list below....

How long have you been DJ'ing?

What inspired you to become a DJ?

What type of "Do" was your first gig?

How much did you charge (Mikeee please convert this from Shilings and pence to decimal when its your go..)

What equipment did you have to begin with?

Whats the worst/most embarassing thing you've done in front of an audience?

What is your favourite type of function now? EG: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, funeral wake..

Is there anything that you include in your show now, that you wish you'd done/known when you started? (Not equipment, but in human/performer terms)

What do you feel you offer your public, that makes you a better DJ than "the next guy/girl"?

Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadnt? and why?

Whats your next DJ purchase likely to be?

If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be?

What do you think is the best thing about DJ'ing.

What do you think is the worst thing about DJ'ing.

What would make you stop DJ'ing (if anything).

How do you think DJ'ing will change, in the next 5 years?

Chrispy
Okay Andy, give this 24 hours to run, so other Members can add their own questions to Gary's list.

Please post your (serious) questions below for ADS to answer!

(And Gary....you wern't the 1st person to mention a simularity between ADS' Avatar and Kaz..wonder what they...I mean it could be??. rolleyes.gif )
Hugmaster
Ok couple of fun questions

Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig?

Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ

And worst advice you were ever given

Darren
paula
Nothing to add!
I do like Gary set of q's, Are these going to be the same set used for every dj questionaire?
Thinking that they should be as knowing my luck I'd get one of you D*r*y censored.gif asking mine............ 042.gif (think I'll go int to hide'in for a while) 042.gif
Dj_Kray
I know there is prob to many to think of but name 3 banker songs, 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill you dance floor!!

mobile_dj_crooks
you also have to ask about age, location, martial status, education level, and what's your mode of transportation! of course, you can just say no comment.....but that's not intresting then!
Chrispy

Yes, we will ask the same questions...and hopefully a few more if you can think of any more smile.gif

I think we'd get away with age, possibly marital status and fave transportation, but given some of the heated times in the chat, I think we'll steer clear of Education...I think that is irrelevant to this industry in any case, and some people here probably didn't even have exams in their day...they were too busy sweeping chimney's or working down th'coal mine for a bowl of gruel a day biggrin.gif .

Location - yeah okay for the oldies but we'll avoid exact details if ever we interview any younger members. However, given the fact we have over 400 Members, and its a monthly thing by the time we come around to you Crooksey you'll have retired smile.gif .

Perhaps fortnightly "interviews" would be better!.

mikeee
OK I'm up for it, just post the questions (by email) to me, so that I can think up the right answers (lol)
The Spindoctor
Yeah likewise just bring em on when its my turn! Questions? Pah ! easy peasy lemon squeezy.

mikeee
So what gave you the idea that taking the wife with you would improve your chance's of work (lol)
The Spindoctor
Cos she's a woman!!! (Will talk to anybody)!!!! LOL
fenix842
Here a couple extra questions:

What equipment do you currently use?

How much have you "invested" in equipment?

What was your eason for becoming a DJ?

Approximately how many gigs have you done to date?

mobile_dj_crooks
retired? LOL.......anyways, don't even bother interviewing me...i'm camera-shy! unsure.gif biggrin.gif
paula
biggrin.gif Maybe you should put us all in alphabetical order, biggrin.gif

P's an awfully long long way away! 071.gif

Unless of Course we start with the moderators biggrin.gif ,

Actually given your part time status - working undercover as a pair of Y--Fronts for the secret service, then we may grant you special avoidance since bringing attention to you may jeopordise a very sensitive area 014.gif 363.gif

Gary, you beat me to it I was just going to post the same, you can't be as busy at work as I am !!
Chrispy
Andy's interview is now a pinned topic at the top of this forum

I wonder who will be next in a fortnight??... cast your votes!
kazzachi
... instead of actually telling us who the DJ in the spotlight is.... wouldnt it be fun to try and guess who it is! Mind you, perhaps in my case, age would be a definite give away!!
Dj_Kray
im just chucking my hat in the ring to be interviwed biggrin.gif i think it should be weekly
The Spindoctor
and if we do it alphabetically THE is a lot further on than Paula!!

071.gif
Chrispy
Okay - Weekly would be better then.

Maybe we could go by member Numbers...starting from "2" and working up

or maybe.....

Well we'll just randomly pick on somebody...much more fun

And alternatively if my balls get pulled out of the machine (ouch 014.gif ) then you won't see me for the tinted windows on my new Merc. So if ever you see no new interview or posts from me on Lottery night, then it's safe to assume that my numbers have been drawn and you can all draw straws for who wants to take over!.
tonyj
been away for a few days, but i'm up for it. 188.gif
