What was the first ever disco setup you had?
My first ever equipment I bought was when I was 15. I had bought two pairs of speakers secondhand and at a very modest price. They were a pair of HH Electronic 2x15'' and horn and a pair of Squire Sound 12'' and bullet which gave my 500 watts rms. I remember them being great sounding lots of bottom end from the HH also very well made from the old Buffallo covering! I had them for a quite a while untill I sold them on. Then I bought a pair of Electovision 15'', bullet and horn again I sold them when I had enough money saved for my serious JBL rig. My first amplifier was a a 200w each side Cloud.
I didnt have much lighting when I was younger only had a Martin Rainbow and two lightscreens from saved and birthday money!
I managed to do quite a lot of youthclub and scout disco's and a lot of at house party's. At the time I charged a modest £40. But then again I only had about 200 Cd's

Amped coffin, H/H 12" speakers and a couple of light boxes, homemade and secondhand, upgraded to H/H Amp and a mixer with 2 seperate CD players in about 1990.
Of course Spin had to pedal a bike to get power to his first set up, a collection of 78's

My first set-up, was a Phonic or Soundlab MRT 60 (the old blue and yellow one) Technics, Citronic PPX 900 amp and a set of Scott (anyone else seen or used this brand) bins and tops.
In fact I'd have no problem working with the amp and speakers now.

Oh Dear....I cringe at the thought of it now...but here goes...
FAL Twin turntable decks with Mono mixer (The type with the old Rotary "faders"). Built in 50...yes 50!!!! Watt Mono Amplifier
Pair of FAL 10" single cone 75 Watt Loudspeakers with the front covered in material resembling your Dad's old string vest
Two 2ft x 2ft Lightboxes - the result of my year 10 School woodwork project powered by an 8 channel controller, which was the result of my School Technology project
Pair of FAL, 3 channel Sound to Light columns using 3x 60 Watt coloured refector lamps that flickered unsteadily to the beat of the music
4 Channel Ropelight, 6 Head Helicopter, Small Strobe Light and yellow "fuzz" police style light.
.....and That was me in 1988

Ok here goes, all this in 1997
2 x 250w electrovision tops.
400w amp, can't remember the make, very budget though, good workhorse.
4 x chunky front screens, home made, not by me, very very sturdy, aluminium casings, damn heavy, would've survived a plain crash.
realistic mixer, oh god, soundlab twin cd, very slow track finding.
4 x par56's in box that looked like a child's cofin.
2 x jeanie blazes and 1 evolution.
added 2 x 300w electrovision base bins a year later and and upgraded to 800w amp. That was a full box trailer.
I'm much more streamlined now, mackie powered speekers, and 8 overhead intelligent lights, with njd sword and strobe, and hazer. Also now using cmx5000 cd and citronic 10/4 mixer.
Think that's it.

My first setup was a walk man and a old stereo component tape deck and i would play them together to mix and cue it with stop and play.
I also had record player that was built in to a stereo receiver - my first record was Men at Work and Micheal Jackson's Thriller Album. I also used to record sound tracks of the speaker of a mono TV with a mic tape recorder cause I loved the music - and had no idea where to buy the sound tracks.
Wierd huH?
But I did all kinds of things like that.
My first read DJ setup later is 2 technic m3d - pioneer 300's w 2 concord DJ'-S cartridges (before i had stanton al II's) - the ortofons kick tho.
I also run an AMD 2200+ 512k ram on a Soyo Dragon Ultra Motherbaord with an 80 GIG drive - Sony 17 inch monitor - Sound blaster audigy 2, the MB has built in optical outs as well. - 12x Creative DVD drive, CD-RW 52X Sony drive 6 USB ports , 1 Firewire port - digital camera ports for sony data cord, Sony mini disk player - some other ****.. (ya im bored at work)
