Hi Nick (checked your profile!)
Welcome to the forum.

'I don't think we can publicly question the character or business practice of another DJ on the forum as it could be construed as 'sour grapes' (ref 1 & 19 forum rules) if ebay is the advertising medium for any DJ to pitch their service.

Best Wishes

And there was I thinking I must make my first post interesting and thought provoking!

Instead I broke a rule! doh!

Oh well... I tried!

Maybe it was a serious question? 533.gif

I would personally never consider it, but neither would I question the ethics of those who chose to do so.

Ebay charges how much? - £1.50 for a listing with the potential for Millions of hits, and the average Wedding Directory could charge £50 - £60 and you'd have to take their webstats on trust, appear amongst 100 or so other competing businesses and may be very lucky to get a single enquiry. Hmmm, does make you wonder if there is an untapped goldmine here!.

If some brides are searching for 2nd hand Wedding Dresses on Ebay why would there be a stigma about them booking their DJ on Ebay?
abcdiscos
I suppose you could say don't knock it until you have tried it!

For what it costs I might have a go and report back to you!

I only mentioned it because Ive seen a few people do it but because people never bid on the auctions (for information only), you never get to see how many times people have run the auction.

Obviously the more they run it, the more successful it must be, if they only do it once, it's obviously a waste of time.

But you are right in the respect, very little money for alot of potential hits!

Sorry to multi post but going back to what Chris said...

I type in disco on ebay to see what comes up....

I wonder how many brides type wedding to see what comes up after typing wedding dress??? Wedding disco!
Chrispy
Given Ebays feedback rating system, not a bad way for those new to the industry to gain feedback for future clients. Nothing worse than being in business for several months and being asked (quite rightly) by nervous clients for references. Seems Ebays system may kill two birds with one stone, at least for the newbies.

Hi Nick
You haven't broken a 'rule' and do raise a thought provoking question, however, part of moderation is to ensure that new members are aware of the forum rules.......it would be too easy to 'moderate' heavily as sometimes questions posed can snowball into 'flamin' answers!

'First contact' good will intentions are most definatly welcome on the forum.

Please don't hesitate to tell us more about yourself and please don't take offence! biggrin.gif

Hope you enjoy the forum!

If your serious about this, do what every other Ebayer does

Add in your Ebay title the following:-

Wedding Disco (Not Wedding Dress , bridesmaids dress)

This will ensure that your listing comes up for brides searching for the other items smile.gif

Hi Nick, 042.gif Welcome along to DJs United.

The question of "Is it OK to advertise a mobile disco on ebay?" is valid enough and doesnt, in itself, fall foul of any forum rule - however, you might want to consider editing out the specific links to the three auctions. (You'll see an edit button on your post if you want to do this)

Its a courtesy thing. Many of us have seen smaller DJ forums start some seedy post off along the lines of "Look at this poor disco - they've still got a rope light", or "Yuck! what a terrible website this other Disco has"...and it all just breeds resentment; especially when the DJ in question then joins them simply to start retaliation posts - its all a downward spiral which I would imagine that you're as keen to avoid as the rest of us.

Back to the question in hand, I would myself not advertise my disco on ebay, I feel that it seems a little bit "last ditch" or desparate in one way, however it does seem , at first glance, to offer good value for money, when looked at on a Price Vs Hits basis - what the value of those hits are, is a different matter of course.

Yeah no problem, I will go back and edit my post shortly to remove the urls....

Having said that I'm just about to post another one (which I will remove if you would like me too)

If all else fails I have managed to make ebay look purple!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=6014088952

Just so we know how many hits the page gets I have put a hit counter at the bottom courtesy of ebay, I'll let you know if I get any interest!

Just a thought Nick.....

Why not try a dual experiment and add an exchange link to the forum (here) and note the hits to your website / content searched on Google, etc, etc.

Sorry, I dont understand??

Could you elaborate?

I was thinking about this a long time back but thought it a bit cheesey, the rpoblem is I dont do weddings and so the market scope was limited, ideal if you like weddings and Im sure it could possibly do well, I see no reason why it shouldnt, flea bay is here and now but it wont be around forever as it is just a faze, its peak is already dropping due to scams

Hi

Personally I don't see the Ebay option as cheesey or desperate. In reality any form of advertising could be misinterpreted as desperate by some.

I run an Ebay shop selling fancy dress and other related items, putting in a listing every now and then for my Wedding Discoes seems like a natural thing to me.

However, I haven't done it yet, lol

I think what leads me to believe that advertising an on-going, and long running service such as a disco, on ebay is strange is that e-bay has a 10 day limit on auctions.

The fact that therefore the DJ has to physically go in and re-run, and re-re-run, and re-re-re-run the auction, and also having a statement saying "do not bid on this auction", makes it all seem very "square peg, round hole", a bit like using a shoe to drink from. Not quite "right".

Having said that the cost for coverage/hits ratio has great potential. thumbup.gif
