Hi fellow jocks and potential jocks

I've been thinking of writing an e-book on the subject of setting up a successful mobile disco.

Just want to ask who would be interested, what subjects would you want covered etc. I'd set up a website where you could purchase this book for download.

Have no further details as yet as I dont' want to waste my energy on something that no one wants.

Feedback would be very much appreciated.

There was a thread about DJ books on here around 2/3 months ago.

What was said then was that a book was obviously less interactive than a forum. Especially where, even a large book might offer some people too long an explanation on some subjects, but too short an explanation on parts of DJ'ing that the reader particularly wants to know about.

I think that the level of interaction is what makes forums, such as this one, such a regulary used medium. If you read about something on here, or ask a question about something, you'll get several replies, and several viewpoints from people, with the instant option of replying back to them publically, asking to go into more detail where neccesary.

Nice idea...although how popular it would be is another matter. Gary has made some very valid points, some people expect (demand?) an answer to their question - usually within milliseconds of posting, and this is where forums come in...can you imagine them leafing through a book to find the answer?..most don't even have the patience to use the "search" feature on this forum rolleyes.gif

Again, a book only reflects the opinions of the Author! - I have read several D.J related books...some made me sleep within 20 mins of picking it up..others kept me awake until the Morning! - but sadly all had one common theme - they read more like autobiographies than an informative piece of literature (I did, I do, I am, I worked here, I would play this....).

If you do write an E-book then try and avoid over plugging your self, some of the previously mentioned books are nothing but excuses to impress or name drop (So I said to Steve Wright.......). Try and make it informative but not read like a School Text Book or a Haynes Manual.

Again..how much interest you would have, especially where spending money is concerned is another matter smile.gif you could always try selling it on E-Bay smile.gif

Have to agree, the best book is experience, and no two gigs are the same. That's why the forum is so good, you get different answers from different DJ in different parts of the world, and they will all be slightly different because of location.

Hi folks

Thanks for the quick responses.

The idea, initally is to give DJ's starting from scratch a starting point, give them some things to consider, eeg, business planning, legal considerations. The aim would be to present facts and only present opinions where absolutely necessary. To give a balance I would seek to use several view points other than that of my own.

I'll do a bit of brainstorming and see what I can come up with.

Thanks again

Darren
