Afternoon peeps.
Have been discussing with my colleague this weekend about what we should and should not be wearing when we gig....
We have both thought about Black Shoes, Trousers and a Black Polo shirt with our logo on the breast!!!
Does anyone do this anymore???
Or do you guys and girls just do a swampy impersonation???
P.S. Anyone know a good Polo Shirt Printer company?????

We have black polo shirts with Starnights Mobile Disco on the breast, a star on each sleave and "Starnights Mobile Disco
The Best Sound Around" on the back...nice and pro! We would of put the phone number on them aswell, but as we do a fair bit of work for an agent, we wouldn't be able to use the shirts very often (agencies don't like you advertising your own number or e-mail).
The place i used was online and i was very impressed with,
Print me a t-shirtThey were very accomadating of my needs, i had to ask them to put the stars on the sleaves as they didn't have that option. And they did it free of charge! Very friendly staff and bloody good prices. I will be dealing with them again!

Personally Im not keen on polo shirts or advertiisement for most gigs.
The minimum really that I would wear for a wedding, birthday is:
Black Shoes, Black Shirt, Black Trousers. Or something equivalent.
I would definitely consider spending a little more and getting some proper black collared shirts. Possibly with a small logo on the breast if you really must.`

We only use the polo shirts for setting up in, or for say 18th Birthdays or Kids Parties, for weddings it's always shirt and quite often bow-tie with dinner jacket and waistcoat.

Same really...
Although sometimes a dinner jacket/bow-tie is a bit O.T.T for most weddings.
Just a smart/fashionable shirt, some black trousers and possibly a tie seems the right balance for most functions.

I totally agree!
Common sense should prevail here. I like to look slightly different to the guests and staff, I do wear the bow tie on occasions that feel right, but not generally for weddings. I PREFER a collar & tie.
I see up-market polo shirts that have been custom printed/embroidered as a good idea.

Black Trousers and Matching Black Polo Shirt with small, discrete red company logo for general pub work, Birthdays, Fundays, & more general functions etc.
Shirt & Tie for Weddings
Black Tie for Masonic Dinner Dances etc or where it is requested by the client (One local University requests it for their summer balls!).
Each to their own really, and there is mixed opinion and no real right or wrong way. Just be smart, and don't turn up in the Jeans you use to change the oil in the car

. Whatever feels right, and is comfortable for you and for the type of occasion.

smart polo shirt looks ok for setup but wouldn't use it for performance...
I use a short sleeve shirt for setup / packdown..no logo's etc i just find it easier without sleeves and looks smart for this part of evening

I purchased 6 polo shirts recently whilst I was in the USA, with disco name embroidered on ( better than printing) for $22 each...... not bad I thought, and he did them while I waited.
If I needed any more he says he will ship to uk for me.
normally wear suit for weddings tho. and Tux if requested .... luckily it hasn't been yet as I would hate to do disco dressed as penquin.

I'm considering having T shirts printed with the Hot Fusion logo for use at informal events. Ideally black with the logo in red. This positively identifies you as the DJ, and helps with 'brand familiarity'.
I'm not sure if it's possible to print colour on black, but I'm assuming for now that it is.
For more formal events, a shirt with a collar is my preferred attire, but I usually wear jeans as they are generally unseen anyhow unless you have to go 'out front'.

you also have a fair amount of time at the beginning of functions..weddings especially when your not 'behind' the console but checking with bride/groom for first dance...your disco fee from the best man...chatting with function manager ref timings etc etc...jeans prob risky at more formal events???

When I started DJing I would wear nothing but a shirt/dress shirt and tie.
It took me a long time to realise that people have psychotic opinions on clothing.
A lot of people think that you are trying to be better than them.
A lot of other people think that if you are not dressed in a shirt and tie you are under-dressed.
A lot of younger people think if you are not wearing bling then you are not a real DJ.
There is no right answer.
I honestly feel that if you don't have a Charles Atlas body, be extremely cautious about the kind of polo shirts that printers/corporate uniform people will provide you with. The tailoring in them is frequently poor.
I think logos look a bit sports club also.
Probably somewhere right now there is some psychopath saying "that DJ last night, he was terrible! Why didn't he wear a polo shirt with his company logo???"
I think an attempt must be made to match yourself to the occasion. If in doubt, bring a black/grey shirt with a mildly amusing tie which can be taken off or put on as you feel necessary.
One thing that is very handy and invaluable in a large venue though is a lanyard with "DJ" in very big obvious letters on it. Saves being stopped numerous times by security or getting a cautious "why is he asking where the light switch?" response from the management.
Wear it all the time when setting up and carrying in. Keep it in your pocket thereafter, clip it in front of the breast pocket when asking your question of management/bar staff.
You may start every question with "I'm the DJ and I want to know...." but they may not hear you or may not believe you.

Hi
Kids parties - Smart black jeans and red t-shirts wit company name.
Birthdays and other informals - Smart trousers and shirt.
Company gigs - full black tie
Weddings - Whatever the customer wants, 99.9% of the time they ask for black tie and really appreciate the effort we make to dress up.

They should be able to set up a screen which will do that. There will be a one off setting up charge for originating the artwork, but its a one off charge - probably around £15 - £40 depending on the complexity of the design. The cost of each garment will also vary depending on how many colours, fonts etc.

I agree totally with what you are saying. That whole polo shirt with logo thing reminds me of being at the sports centre too. And the comment about the tailoring of polo shirts is bang on too.
I just feel that I present a better image in a "normal" shirt, which I've spent some time choosing and which suits me, than in something like a generic brand polo shirt.
Having said that, if you're working as a team, then it can be effective. I've worked with dance teachers, for example, where there are 4 or 6 all working together and they wear logo'd t-shirts, which makes it easy to identify them.

Give me a call, I can get it sorted, no huge set up charges etc
I have just had done, or am getting done the following
8 x Oxford Shirts
8 x Twill Shirts
6 x Polo Shirts
2 x Rugby Shirts
6 x Blouses
4 x Aprons
2 x Coats
1 x Cap
1 x Jacket
3 x Fleece
and a few other bits and bobs
All have the YBE logo on them in the same place, except the aprons, which have the logo on the bottom, all are black to fit with the image, and it didn't cost a fortune either
In fact apart from the gig when CP and Kingy came and saw me in Nantwich Chris has never seen me in anything other than logo'd attire, wheter it is ADS, or YBE
For a quote give me a call, or e.mail me

What about the girls/ladies out there? Where men can get away with shirt & Ties or DJ's I don't think evening gowns would do the trick unless we fancied breaking our necks?

Black blouses with the logo on the left breast, along with either a pair of black trousers, or a black shirt, sometimes a white blouse works, although black is prefered.
Also womans suits are neat and tidy and work.
