hi all, i was out last night in a club and the dj played a tune which was awsum, it was the backing/music from sweet home alabama with a phat beat and someone was rapping over it (sounded kinda like 50 cent). at the end of the tune the normal sweet home alabama was sung by the original arist aswell. i just wondered if anyone could id this tune please??

Poor ol' "Sweet home Alabama".
OK, "This stuff is really Freshhh" and "All this scratchin's makin' me itch" was gonna get stale sooner or later (about 1982 imo), but certain tunes, hooks and melodies just get used in some of these urban crossover tunes and the rapper bit might as well have been recorded on a different continent, given the lack of timing, synchronisation and interaction between the rapper and the actual part of track containing the musical content.

I think you're being a bit harsh here - sometimes these rappers manage to record their part after they are dead (like on Ghetto Gospel) - you can't really blame them for a lack of interaction in that situation.

A more recent example of this is on Pussycat Dolls "Dont cha".
The rapping simply bleeds all over the first few words of the lyrics, both near the beginning of the song, and about 3/4's of the way through. Its just like the rapper was just "set off" at a certain speed and was determined to reach the end of his sentence regardless of when it finished.
Anyone else notice it on "Don't Cha?"

Yuk!
I wonder if Busta was able to colour stuff in with crayons as a kid without going over the lines.
Him talking over the top of the real singer just sounds like a bad mix, and tricky, though not impossible, to get rid of.

I looked at a couple of different mixes of Dont Cha to see if there was a "rap free" version, as there is with some songs, but alas...

Bet he wasnt even in the same studio when he recorded it and the producer did the mixing ! think its dreadful that the record company wouldnt let the artist who originaly wrote and sang the song record it because she was too ugly.

Im really into my rap music, but that sounds terrible.
The best one I have heard is Nelly - Country Grammar V's Grange Hill Theme, now thats clever mixing.
