I'm doing the music following a Long Service Awards night. The recipients have worked for the company for either 25 or 40 years. Which, by my calculation, makes them roughly between the ages of 40 to 65.
Musically I think I'll be OK with 60's and 70's soul, disco, motown and brit pop, some rock'n'roll, country and maybe a small dash of 80's. I'm just wondering if anyone can think of any special songs for such a night?

Do what I did to Mikeee....
Play "American Pie" but loop the word "Long"...
Let the song finish your announcement...
eg: "We're playing this one for Mikeee as he was born... a long long long long long long (exit) time ago..."
Change the announcement of course to "John started here ... a long long....etc".

about 60 of us were taken out (and shot) to the hilton in london in july to celebrate (or comiserate) our 25 years service at our hospital.
they asked me to do the disco but as i was a guest i got my old dj partner to do it.
he just played requests like any other night and it went down really well.
dont forget congratulations and celebration at the begining bigben and then just play it by ear.
