hi guys, heres a quick discription of the new laser ive just bought from lime light lasers

Big Dipper Seven Stars F series F-199 30mW Dpss Green Laser Show
30 mW Green Laser sound to light activated with volume adjustment with
7 channel DMX-512.

Features:- 1 X 30mW Diode-pumped solid state laser(DPSS), wavelength 532nm emerald green
Cooling :- Fan cooled

Control system :- sound activated with volume adjust / 7 CH DMX-512

Effects: XY scanning, 36 beam effects (including time tunnels, waves, walls and beam effects), Channel 1- on/off sound control select / Channel 2- 36 effects / Channel 3- Dot scanning speed / Channel 4- Line scanning speed / Channel 5 X pos / Channel 6 Y Pos / Channel 7 Pattern size.

1 meter DMX cable included.

this unit is a lot brighter than some other 30mw lasers ive looked at.

i done a quick test with it on monday (as you do)
i live about a quater of a mile from wembley stadium, so i put the laser on my windowsill and turned it on and the beams were hitting the arch without any problem.

i have seen similar lasers advertised on ebay that you can buy direct from china and the p&p is anything upto £80. limelight buy in bulk and only charge you uk postage which varies from £10-15

in my opinion this is a top notch laser which i would reccomend.

Pointing a 30mW laser out of your window is highly illegal -
any reflective surfaces could have caused permanent eye
damage to yourself and members of the public (leaving aside
the air traffic implications). Might be worth reading the HSE
guidance asap.

Sorry to mention this but it's important, Chris.
M3KTG
Well i run this unit both ways depending on the venue

For a small venue we leave it home

Medium(sp) room we use it with a Chauvet DMX50 Controler

Then for a big room with loads of head room we tend to let it run S2L on top of the truss, but for short spells (a few sec's every few mins)

But i also advise you to power this from a switched supply next to your mixer
we built a little black box with one of the red emergency stop buttons with a key lock built in so that no one but you can opperate it,this so if the lazer plays up and points direct in to the crowd you can kill the power in a split second.

thanks for pointing this out to me chris
i had read the HSE guidance before i bought my first laser.
it was 3.30 in the morning when i done the short burst (roughly 5 seconds) onto the arch
there was no reflective surfaces or houses only a playing field between the laser and the arch. yes it was a bit foolish of me but you dont get many if any planes at that time of the morning and if you did they were flying to low anyway.
wont do it again
lesson learned

i was looking into getting a key switch fitted.
is the Chauvet DMX50 Controler the same as the
stairville controller
but a lot cheaper.
im going to check out dmx at the weekend so ill have a look at the chauvet.

Sorry I didnt mean to sound like my Mum but my day job involves
accident investigation 8(

If you're interested the FBI Bulletin had an article on gangs
using bundled laser pointers on pilots of police helicopters:

Honest, I didnt make this up.

Cheers, Chris.

I have the stairville and yes it's identical to the chauvet......... but much better value from thomann in germany. Same bit of kit different badge. It only took 2 days to arrive from germany as well.... not bad service

I does of course come with the eurpean mains adaptor, but that's easily sorted.

dj007
thanks for that wizard. i think its time to spend some more cash.

Better saving up and going for one of the limelight lasers, rather than dashing in and buying the laser crab - which is very underpowered and little more than a novelty.

Any disco laser that's powerful enough to knock a jumbo jet out of the sky has got to be good value for money and you could do laser eye treatment on the side. wacko.gif
