I'd always thought that "hip hop" was the term used to describe a particular urban culture, but a term which has more recently been used musically as a generic name for grouping together R'n'B, rapping, MC'ing and even scratching/turntablism, as well as the older breakdancing tunes eg: Olly & Jerry (No, they didn't go on to make dozens of different flavoured ice creams).
Certainly the suggestions already made above should keep the average pre-adult happy for a while - as would many other artists who can "sing angry", swear and look stroppy for the camera.
