Really dont mind either... it always depends on what type of crowd you have got at the end of the day

Birthdays tend to be more relaxed than weddings but as said it depends on the crowd.

On thing that I've been doing for the last couple of years at birthdays is running a competition for "Guess what was Number One in the charts when the birthday boy/girl was born".
Easy to do, (and prove to the doubting drunked at the end) if you have ANY old copy of the Guiness Book of Hit Singles. (Normally when the new copy comes out the older version drops to less than a fiver! and obviously its only the last 12 months hits that have changed.
I have people popping up to me all night saying "was it.....?" or "I think it was...".
Face it theres thousands of tunes for them to choose from...I normally end up giving them SLIGHT hints as the night draws to a close... EG: Whether the song was recorded by a group or an individual, then whether it was a male or female singer (or group) etc...
Then, depending on the song....you either announce it, or play it if you have have it at a suitable time near the end.

Unless of course you get into Mikee's age then you need Encyclopedia Britannica or stone tablets I forget which!
