Hey Gang......

Just updating my dated Light Screens! omg.gif (Yes some of us do still have 'em!!!) thumbup.gif

Have always had boxes with coloured bulbs, but was contemplating buying some Gel sheets instead to keep the cost of bulbs down!

Got any views on what is best??? Gels or Coloured bulbs???

Firstly Splosh Welcome.gif to the DJ United forums !

Ok, lightscreens - bulbs, gels etc.

My only reservations about using gels on lightscreen bulbs would be down to the heat and closeness (is that a word?) of the gels to the bulbs - what sort of wattage bulbs are they? Pygmys would be 15watt, golfballs are 40watts (the bulbs, not the spheres that you play golf with - before anyone mentions it?), ordinary lightbulbs....well, anything from 25watt to 150watt++ If they're reflector shaped then most definately dont try to filter then either.

I'm using light screens to make the disco a focal point in the room - a feature sadly lacking in the clones of "8 black boxes 'anging on a pole". I use 40watt golfball bulbs (plain colourless clear bulbs) but.... I spray them with car paint.

This is fine, as my lightscreens are the type with prismatic perspex between the bulbs and the audience - easy to do too. If the bulbs are visibly exposed to the audience, then dont try this, unless you're really neat at spraying.

Get yourself 1 x large cardboard box - poke a few holes into one side to rest the necks of the bulbs into, and spray away... alternatively, in the abscence of a cardboard box - you can prop the lightbulbs up in the neck of a (empty) milk bottle, or similar to spray.

Leave them for a good hour to dry and - hey presto - coloured bulbs.

Once again, 042.gif welcome to DJs United.

Gels or Bulbs?

Bulbs, everytime. Although using clear bulbs may be a few pence cheaper and available from any supermarket when it comes to buying replacement bulbs, coloured bulbs are a lot less hassle.

If you do use standard coloured bulbs or pygmys in your boxes (not reflectors) then go for the internally sprayed (solid colour) type since these will not fade, crack or flake like the lacquered / dipped type

The internally sprayed type look like this:-

Unfortunately it is getting difficult to source reflector bulbs in the solid colour style, but GLS and Pygmy should be fairly easy to find.

Coloured golf balls for me in my lightscreens.

Lol,
I think I have an answer already!!!!! Only 3 replies and they all say Bulbs!!!

Thanks for the feedback gang, invaluable advice.......

By the way, has anyone seen these new light screens that are 3/4 Inch in depth???? Looks like they have Dichroic bulbs or Led's in them!!!!! Looks good, but surely mega bucks!!!!

If you're using 15 watt bayonet pigmy bulbs, I have a few in my spares box you can have for free.

Please let me know if interested.
