When doing a party, how many tunes do you reckon you play in an avarage hour?

Bear in mind links etc.

I've always called it 16.

I quite like doing this. When all is said and done, I reckon I get paid about £3 per song I play - that's quite hefty when you think about it. Anyway, most tracks are between three and four minutes in length so somewhere between 15 and 20 tracks per hour, depending on the genre - as you know, oldies are generally shorter. Links are generally done over the music so these don't reduce the amount of songs I play.

If I play games I will always fit in a lot of tracks, almost a different track every minute or so. I can actually play as many as 15 songs in 20 or 30 minutes!

If in a dance set (not just using radio edits) I will play about 10-12 track to the hour but party sets/oldies. I would say about 15-16.
stevie
about 16 but towards the end 20.it all depends what you are playing

Well, if a song lasts 3 minutes - 20 tunes per hour

If a song lasts 4 minutes - 15 tunes per hour

Since most modern songs last somewhere between 3 and 4 minutes, then I'll go for "between 15 and 20 tunes per hour".

I can make one tune last the entire gig but you wont like it much tongue.gif

Does nobody do the fast cut-up party set thing anymore? Clever segues and mixes a la Mastermix (ish) but LIVE?
C.S
not exactly but i do often slot in bits of 2 or 3 other tracks into the tracks that are playing.

I'm only guessing it was never really a 'mobile' thing to do because so few mobile DJs used slipmats 'back in the day'...

It can't be used all the time obviously, but it has its moments.

I know that megamixes, samples and clubmix sets can really bug the heck out of a large portion of my typical audience because they tell me so. They want to hear the songs they remember, as they remember them. There are exceptions, which are the commercially sucessful medleys like the 'Grease Megamix', 'Boney M Megamix' or 'Stars on 45' that still go well, but mostly I use whole (or nearly whole) tracks.
