Before I was reborn as a DJ tongue.gif I always loved the communards - dont leave me ths way. But played it at my last 2 gigs (one even requested loads of 80's) and it flopped.

This track seems to have lost its appeal?
Anyone else find this

What tracks do you think have gone 'off the boil'
Dukesy
This is interesting.

Recently, was asked for a Beach Boys track (Surfing USA) at a gig which went down a storm.
SO.....tried it out at another gig - no responce!

You can have this 'reaction' at any function with what you think is a great track (by audience reaction and experience / tried and tested)

Tracks I've played recently that have lost that appeal....but am sure they will get it back! biggrin.gif

Somebody Else's Guy - Jocelyn Brown
Hey Baby - DJ Otzi (Thank goodness!)
Dancing In The Moonlight - Toploader
Axel F - Crazy Frog

biggrin.gif I guess ADS will say:
March Of The Mods
The Smurf Song
Save Your Love (my Darling)
Hey Matthew
Seven Tears
Save Your kisses For Me
Rabbit
Deck of Cards
Ten Guitars
Funky Chicken
Tusk
And.....The Music of The Night

Dan, you are incorrect, I still play most of those at most gigs.

Can you remember the dance that went with March Of The Mods ?
Corabar Steve
Played March of the mods for the first time ever last week & it went down a storm!

Sinitta - So Macho. This one was a billion-dollar guarantee to be a dance-floor filler back in the late 1980's and early 90's, but it's died an ugly death, even at 80's theme nights. I have no idea why.

2 I can think of:

Pigbag - Papas got a brand new pigbag
Piranhas - Tom Hark

I have started playing them again, they still work well. But in the 70s & 80s, Jeff Beck - Hi ho silver lining used to be requested all the time. Everyone now has this on their don't play list, and I don't blame them.
Corabar Steve
Never really stopped playing those 2 Brian, not seen you on the dark side recently.

Further to the above post, march of the mods was a request, as was yellow river whichhad pretty much the same reaction.

Comunards doesn't seem to go down as well as it did a few years ago neither does Dead or Alive - You spin me round, which I always used to play within a few tracks of Don't leave me this way.

P.S. Doews anyone know any Mods (as in mods & rockers, not forum moderators) that would've been seen dead dancing to March of the mods??

March of the mods used to go down a storm when it first came out....... except for one gig we did for 200 hells angels........ but thats another story. Luckily we had steppenwolfs born to be wild ( which we had to play at least every 30 minutes if we wanted to leave alive)

mick
You really never know what will go down well except maybe the theme from Titanic fear.gif
Corabar Steve
Ouch!

These things are meant to keep us on our toes & to stop us going stale ;)

I know someone who's been playing the same 80s & cheese hour for about 10 years. You can set your watch by him. Never fails to keep the crowd buzzing though, but I pity the poor barstaff.
Dukesy
I do remember!

But I only see the ol'duns do it now.

What we need today is a combination....... a March of the Casper Mods!

Funnily, I Will Survive seems to be dying here and Dancing Queen.

However Gloria's Never Can Say Goodbye and Abba's Does Your Mother Konw are on the up.

Weird!

I have been asked for "Vous le vous" by Abba quite a bit recently.

Songs that still sound good to me, but are rarely (if ever) requested include:

"Its a Love thing" or "And the beat goes on" by The Whispers
"Street Life"- Crusaders
"Aint no stoppin' us now" -McFadden & Whitehead
"September"-EW&F
"Fresh"- Kool & the Gang
"Forget me nots"- Patrice Rushen
"Aint no body" - Rufus
"Good times" or "Le Freak" by Chic

How about the Northen Soul that we all used to play?

Anything by George Benson, Luther, Alexander O'neil etc etc.

Whats happened to the public? I wonder if,sometimes, they have forgotten some of these good tracks and by me dropping them into an evening's entertainment it helps to jog their memory.

Perhaps some audiences are just too happy with the "Cha cha slide" to ever be educated? 533.gif

'Does Your mother Know' is always my preferred Abba track to play unless anyone specifically asks for anything else. Never failed (yet).

Did you know that Sinatta's So Macho was the same length of 7" as 12"

I'll collect my anorak and leave now.
Award Entertainment
So was Gloria Gaynor's "I Am What I Am", except for the bit in the middle, which made the 12" longer..... tongue.gif biggrin.gif
