hi and thanx

i set up for a disco last night and everything seemed ok music playing fine went onto the floor only to find 1 speaker isnt working ( Horror ) as i had 10 mins till start of disco checked all leads all ok checked everything else no luck swaped leads and still not working after 10 mins starting to have a panic as ive just bought new backup but hasnt been delivered yet and was going to spoil someons birthday

finaly figuerd that the problem was channel 2 on my amp wasnt working turned of and on severel times changed the clip thingies on the back but not sure what im doing then my brother has a bright idea to take a xlr lead from my headphones source and run it into the amp on channel 2 and with a shreik of noice it trips the amp to be fully working then i put the original lead back in and everything is working havnt a clue on what has happend and y is it all ok now

is it a sign that my amp is dying or is it somthing to do with frequencies ect

any ideas would be very gratefull thanx jason

fair enough it sounds like it is your amp but set your gear up when u get some free time and test it then it my just be a connection problem, but like u siad ur bro can loo k at that. in woudent say a frequency prob just a 'where u plug what in too' situation (so to speak).

What make of amp was/is it?

I've not come across any amps (except the newer ones with USB/data connectors) where switching the amp off for 30 seconds and switching it back on, hasnt "cleared" any circuit that might have tripped.

Sending the headphone signal down into the amp, might have "burst through" some tarnished connector inside (a bit like blowing the skin off of the custard), but i think its just as well you've got a 2nd amp coming.

If you hadnt have been able to get channel 2 running, could you have connected one speaker to the working channel output, and connected the 2nd speaker to the first? This would have meant that you were running mono and increasing the load (ohm) on the amplifers remaining working channel, but would have got you through the gig.

Is it possible that you plugged both left and right output from your mixer into the same channel on the amp.

I only ask because my son did this a few weeks back at a wedding gig and gave me a minute or so's panick, till I realized what he'd done.
Neon9
it is a berringer 2500 amp
its not a cable connection problen but possibly the amp connection might be faulty
all outputs from mixer was correct its not possible to make a mistake with my small mixer but fairenough thoght as my brother made that mistake 2 once

well thanx for your input i will keep using it untill it does die and if so i will let you know and when in the future could be a sure sighn that it is on the way out or as garry says

might be a very plausible answer

cheers and best regards jason

Having read you initial description, I think this more likely a lead problem or a dry joint inside the amp.

I doubt it is terminal for the amplifier.
