good cd decks are more expencive than good TTs ... but depending which type of DJ u want to be really determins what type ofd setup you should buy. If you want to be a mobile dj and do partys and stuff then i suggest getting a twin CD player with all the usual features and a big 19'' mixer with atleast 4 channels (always looks the buisness) but if you want to be a club DJ i suggest you go with Vinyl and get some TTs. Beatmatching is a lot more fun and more hands on with TTs instead of just pressing buttons all night with CDs. also TTs look the buisness in a club.
I dont know whats best for CD players and big mixers but for TTs I would suggest a pair for Stanton STR8 Turntables, or Stanton ST turntables (Straight arm or curved arm) ... most people would say go with technics and i would recomend them but they cost too much and the stantons do the job just as well for atleast £100 cheaper!. I own a pair of Stanton STR8-60s and they do everything i have ever wanted them to do and have no problems beatmatching atall. They cost around £175 each where as technics 1210s usualy cosat around £300 each!.
anyway, the STR8-30 is an ok direct drive TT, STR8-60 is a great Driect TT with alot of nice tauque, STR8-100 is great with lots of extra features, STR8-150 is amazing with loads of stupid features ull probably never use but its great anyway

!
as for a club mixer I would go for the Pioneer DJM600.... provided u got alot of money, if u aint then get something from stanton or behringer. The VMX300 from behringer is a superb 3 channel mixer with tones of extras... i own it and theres nothing it cant do for me!
getting a CD deck setup for mobile Djing costs... well i dont know...
gettiung a CD deck setup for club djing costs around £400 (ok cd decks and ok mixer) upto about £3000 (pioneer CDJ-1000s (£1000 each) and DJM-600)
getting a TT deck setup for club djing costs around £200 (with the lowest priced Direct drives u can find (dont get belt drives for beat matching!!!) and a 2 channel mixer with no EQ (how i started out heh) ... upto well... lots of money lol... my setup (2x stanton STR8-60s and a Behringer VMX300 mixer) cost me £500 brand new but u could probably get it for about 300 second hand...
hope this helps lol...
oh and yeah u can do it in ur basement... or a bedroom, or anywhere
