It can't just be me...

There seems to be a good many people around will happily talk to DJ's about music, speakers, party games etc, but will then go off-at-a-tangent and suddenly slip in an almost totally un-music related question. Like, where can you hire event car parking attendants from 533.gif or...how long does it take for a marquee to be erected?...

So...heres a bit of semi-serious fun. Lets put our heads together for a bit of planning for a virtual event.

Yes, St Chrispies needs a new roof and the (not-so) local farmer has kindly offered to allow the use of his big field, which is a mile away from the nearest building, but does have a fresh water supply. The farmer needs the field for his herd of cows until the end of August, but after that, he'll mow the grass and remove any "cow droppings pooh.gif ". So, its a September event then...

The whole of the local village and both its schools (one primary, one secondary) will be in the catchment area, and initial interest seems high - possibly around 500+ visitors

So...we've got this 'ere empty field, in September, and they want an all day event...

I suppose if we call it a Summer Fayre, we'll get more people to visit by spelling Fair with a "Y".... rolleyes.gif

To make things interesting, and perhaps help give everyone a rough idea about costs etc, perhaps we could include costings against some of the ideas,...(so no appearence by Miss K Minogue or Mr B Pitt then...), together with any "legal stuff" we might need to look out for - if we book someone to supply such'n'such attraction, do they/we need insurance, or a license etc

So, for a fun filled day (and evening) for everyone, we'll need..... ?

I'll start things off...... An Ice Cream Van...and I've found these rates from a LOCAL ice cream van man...

"Within a 20 mile radius of the village there is no booking fee, unfortunately out side this area I have to charge booking fee's as follows.
20 miles £20
20-30 miles £40
30-40 miles £80
40-50 miles £100
50 miles + "we need to talk"

So...we've got an Ice Cream van (he sells chilled soft drinks too) for FREE.

Cool...

Hi

I think you'll need a good DJ, I'll do it for a 75% discount, seeing as it'll likely bring in extra business what with all the cards and flyers I'll hand out.

So you got a DJ for £55.00 :)

Partition off part of the fayre and allocate 'boot sale parking' - £5 per car, £10 per van.
To maximise for the fund raising....
Charge an entrance fee for virtual people on foot - £1 before 10am, 50p before 11am and 20p at midday.
The 'boot sale' will need marshals and limited parking, etc - no problem for a virtual event. biggrin.gif

Wind up the event at 1.30 - 2.00pm and co-ordinate a virtual litter pick.

YourBigEvent
Dan has virtually covered everything there laugh.gif

ADS could do a virtual cake stall, say 10p a slice? I'll get Mrs M to do a card stall nearby (she likes cake) laugh.gif

Ah but if we reverse that price structure, so that the earlier they get into the event the cheaper it is, but some incentive to keep 'em there all day, maybe the visitors will get there earlier, and be there longer, spending more money.

Hugmaster already mentioned that he'll be there providing the virtual Disco...I wonder where he'll be plugging in his 13amp plugs...and is Darren showerproof...

If we feed and water the people, they'll stay longer, and spend more money - although if the visitors are full of food and drink....
Dukesy
Ah Ahhh - but if visitors are going to be able to get prime perusal of the 'goodies' on offer - you charge a premium rate for premium opportunity!

The 'incentive' is to reduce the entrance fee for the duration of the 'virtual boot sale'.......

To further increase the incentive - allow FREE entry on the last half hour laugh.gif
To quote a lyric.....Every One's a Winner Baby - from experience! smile.gif

Dodgems, marquee, coconut shy's, morriss dancing...this is beginning to sound like an episode of Midsomer Murders.

Farmer Piles (John Kidd) could come down with his tractor and a bit of rope to pull out all the cars that get stuck in the mud when our predictable british summer strikes and it rains whistling.gif
