As far as the original question goes...what would I charge? If I were using the same amount of lighting, sound etc, and playing for the "average" number of hours as a normal gig, I'd charge normal rates. I wouldn't slap on an "Olympic Year Surcharge" for the time around the games.

I dont like being charged extra for a can of cold cokecola when its hot, or for an umbrella when it rains (a'la Dorchester 2 weeks ago), so I wouldnt impose opportunist pricing on my customers either.

However, if I was doing some venue where I needed to hire extra sound or lighting, then yeah, I'd charge extra accordingly, but that would be the same any year - Olympics or not.

I could manage the sound system that you mentioned - as long as I'm allowed to add a decimal point in there somewhere... biggrin.gif
