Just a thought, reading the forum topics every day, it seems like a lot of the regular lads come from south area and perhapps know each other etc etc
Would you not consider purchasing a tester and do the tests yourself?
One of you could go on the course, its only a day and quite cheap (perhaps the one with the most general knowledge about electrics would be the best)...only to make it easier! The course will guide the tester through the tests involved and the different appliances etc etc, also the readings you should expect.
As far as i know, if you can show you are a competent tester and you have a course certificate and you show all your pat test logs for the appliances tested, its legal!
Tester basic about 400
Course about 120
appliances tested from then on...free!
Most appliance testers come with software to print results on the pc so its easy!
If ten of you got together in one area, it woulnt cost too much?
Just thinking out loud as a sparkie But i realise it all depends on how much you pay gettin it done/how much kit you have rolleyes.gif

Not a bad idea, but to get 10 people near me would be

Centrestage
Marky Marc
Gary
Brian Mole
Frankie J

Then I would have to hit London area for the other 5 I think, so still 200 miles away from anything or anybody down here rolleyes.gif

Check with your insurance co. first.

Carol says her college found that in-house testing by trained staff was not acceptable to them. They insist on "independant" testing. wacko.gif

My old man does mine he works at a local school and they sent him on the course and does all there's without any problems.

to all the lads north west

i am ging on a pat testing course on 18th july 2005 so after that i'll be doing my own gear and most of my mates who are dj's and singers.

you can hire a pat tester from hss for about £40 a day so i will be taking orders once i've passed it.

it's not hard but you do have to sit the day course
centrestagediscos
im hopefully going on a course through work very soonb but got one of the council electricans to do mine for this year.
brianmole
I do my own safety testing, but will probably get Mikeeeee to do mine in the near future

I have been on both courses and passed both exams.

I have a tester and have offed to do it on here before at a discounted price, yet curiously had no takers.

I can only presume everyone is already done?????? stupid.gif

Andy, you can do mine when you are passing Torquay biggrin.gif

Thing is....a fully qualified sparky is just the same as joe blggs unless he has been on the course (in the eyes of the law) He is not competent otherwise, so unless your sparkie has the cert, you may as well do it yourself!
As mentioned above, you can hire the tester for 20/40 quid per day or even buy one off ebay cheap?
I hate doin it to be honest, usually do nursing homes etc about 180 items, every room has about 6 items in it, boring boring sooner be wiring a house!
Havin said that, i will always do a favour for me mates!
