At the wedding I'm doing this Saturday the Bride is wearing a red wedding dress.
I'm thinking of playing Lady in Red in the slowies at the end of the night.
Too Cheesy, what do you think?

I get the impression most people hate this track now. There is so much more you could play.

I played a 40th birthday party a few months ago and the birthday girl wore a red dress. At the stroke of midnight (into her actual birthday) her partner rushed over and asked me to play "Lady In Red". It actually went down well as the guests were in on it.
Apart from that I've never played it on the principle that I can't stand the song LOL.
Cheers,
Jack.

I can understand not playing it because it's Crap, and because it's been milked to death, and sounds very dated but how many people would be sat there thinking 'Heck the DJ is crap because he's playing a song about a prostitute

. It would have to be a right anorak!.
How many of you have played 'Band Of Gold' at a Wedding before now?, most love songs are about breaking up or infidelity so thats 50% of Ballard Box out of the window before we even start LOL

. 'What becomes of the broken hearted' is another doom and gloom song - just one of 100's you could sit down and think about, but I bet it gets played by DJ's all over the World this weekend.
If you want to dampen a party atmosphere properly then I suggest you play 'Old Shep' or 'The Old Rugged Cross'

The first time I ever played it, I thought I had put it on at 33 by mistake.
Dull as dish water, but if the customers want it...

I don't think anything can be too cheesy

if it fits on the night play it. I've actually played the song twice this year at weddings for the 2nd dance (choosen by the B&G) as it matched the colour of the bridesmaids dresses.

Am I missing something here? I've just listened carefully to all the words and can't find anything suggesting a prostitute

Hi
Cheesy or not, it's been requested for my g b and g's first dance at my Weding gig tonight.
And I too can find nothing referring to the lady being a woman of the night.

Just to let you know, I didn't play it in the end as the B & G were nowhere to be seen for most of the night, and the dancefloor was empty at the end of the night.

One of the guests at this wedding requested Band Of Gold and was quite surprised when we refused to play it. Even after explaining to her why we wouldn't play it her response was "so what"

If asked, I would play Band of gold. Its a song, does anyone really care that much? I doubt it!
Lady in Red has been asked for at many occasions and whilst I dont like it, I have played it. Not noticed anything about prostitutes though.

I get asked for this track at a lot of functions by older clients and yes you will probably be asked to play it. Whats up with playing it then ?
I think the record has special memories to people and I dont think they could care less what the lyrics are about - Mick
