first of all the output from the mixer should not go to the Graphic EQ and then to the Speakers/AMP

the Graphic EQ should be on the Main Send and Return loop of your mixer and no were near the output stage.........

This shapes the sounds at line level and there is no chance of you over driving the EQ clipping the sound and turning it into a big old noise.....

Your main outputs then go direct to the speakers/amps

If you have more than one output on your mixer then run the main to the mackies and the second output to the SUB...

turn off base boost on the EQ for now and run things as flat as possible untill you have set the levels for the sub and main speakers...

play a few songs and go listen... turn the sub right down and then increase its level untill you notice its there. then back it off a little bit..

It should reinforce the sound and not be in your face for normal levels of music..

now play somthing with a real bass line and listen to how much better it sounds..

Yeah you can if you like, its just another line level output from the mixer, your sub will filter the high frequencies and just play the Lows (crossover built in the sub)
The mixer i use has a sub output on its own which i never use as the crossover does all the work inside the sub

Has the JBL sub got high pass out connections on the back it should have?

If it does, just connect sub to the mixer and the mackies to the sub high pass connections, adjust the eq and thats it

By the way your low boost is for low volume only, shouldnt have this pressed when high volume
Ive got mackies too and never need to use low boost
