The drawer sticking could be caused by a worn belt or the tray may be warped. All the KAMs I've seen use standard domestic lasers which cost between £6 & £20 depending on which one is fitted in your unit - plus you'll have to pay someone to fit it unless you can do it yourself.

thanks .never thought of contacting them .
ther number is 01582 690600 and ask for spares
the price for the lazer it self is £37 + vat its held in with 4 screws and needs fine tunning with a small screwdriver to reline the lazer .
the price for the full unit ( the full drawer with lazer ) is £70 + vat
so not as bad as i thought .thanks for the help

Unless you have access to a scope don't try to realign the laser with a screwdriver. You can actually damage or reduce its life by setting it incorrectly. In my experience nowadays 99% of lasers don't need adjustment after fitting.

The KAM KCD960 will usually have Sony KSS240A lasers depending on how old it is. These are sealed-for-life and must not be adjusted. However the focus offset and tracking gain pots will need adjusting when fitting a new laser: Dont expect the pcb to be marked and you'll need a good 'scope to do it properly. If you dont, it may skip worse than ever, not cue up, or the servo may oscillate with an audible whistle.
Dont buy the cheap lasers as they'll only last a year if you're lucky. Get genuine Sony ones, they're not that much dearer. The genuine ones will say 'SONY' next to the lens on the black plastic shield.

grandata onlineBear in mind that as mentioned by a previous poster, a slack loading belt will not only cause a sticky drawer but may cause the disc to be incorrectly clamped against the spindle motor (it's the same mechanism action) and give you the symptoms you describe. Changing the belt requires drawer removal and then re-synchronising the gears after.
Good Luck!

Yes nearly every manufacturer has a similar unit. Whilst the OEM in Taiwan changes the remote panel cosmetically, and tweaks the firmware, the basic cd units are remarkably similar inside, made by only a couple of manufacturers, see the Hanpin-Electron website in Taipei for clues, Chi-Sheng etc.
Brands using the same mechanisms include Citronic (Skytronic), Numark, Stageline, Omnitronic, Stanton, Kam, Gemini, American DJ, Electrovision (Soundlab), DAP, BST, Ion, Prosound, Vestax, Sherwood and more.
Sometimes however, a brand will stipulate a better mechanism for a high-end model, so parts may not always be compatible.
