I have just brought a pair of Abstract Extreme Flower XP5 this week.
I am really impressed with them. Even though i have only been able to try them out in my bedroom. Am thinking of changing all my lighting over to the Extreme Range. By adding 4 of the scanners to work with the XP5.
The Gobo's are very clear and the focussing is good. The outer Gobos are clear, whereas other twister effects i have brought in the past the outside gobos are blurry.
The world of DMX is new to me, so will be getting a controller for them soon and having a play.
I have taken a photo of them. Please exuse the paper shredder, and my Large Roses savings jar full of 1p and 2ps LOL.
When I use them next week shall change the pictures over.
Anmy views of the Abstract Extreme Lighting range would be appreciated.

good choice of effect...
the xp5 is based on the twister 4hp (turn it upside down and there u go)
i have xp3's and have used xp2's and all the efects are first class....
sadly the xp range is no more after a change round at abstract im told. but this means some discounts to be had...
im buying more of it soon

Hi - I have some older abstract lighting and it's very good.
I would suggest a very careful look at dmx control before you spend any money.
DMX in the main is not plug an play (like I thought it might be) and if you are thinking of mixing manufacturers effects you would be best to buy a universal controller rather than a brand specific one, although if you are only looking to run abstract lighting then one of their controllers will give you some immediate lightshow facilities.

The extreme range is good.. the only thing i don't like is the controller.. its hidiously overpriced for what it does... I prefer much to have much more control over the lights.. and £160 is far too much for a controller which effectivly just selects one of four patterns (2 of which were useless as the lights kept blacking out all the time whilst using them).

I wish Ads! I have been putting all the Odd 2ps in a Jar for about a year now and can never be bothered to count it all up!!
I agree with what was said above. The Extreme Controller is far too expensive! I dont know alot about DMX, would any of the Abstract Range controllers still work on it ? I am still deciding wether or not to change all my lights so they are all the same abstract extreme range. Ideally I would add to the XP5 Flowers, 4 of the Scans and 2 of the Gladiator types. I shall have to see how the lights behave on their first use on this coming Friday!

Mark at Abstract tells me that they are not discontinuing the Extreme range.
However they are going to re-badge the Mad range as the Extreme Pro range to signify that it is a step up from the Extreme range.

Any of the Abstract controllers will work (with a pin 2/3 reversing DMX lead) except the little 3 button unit that comes with the old scans and gladiators. However they are all more expensive than the extreme controller (which you can get for much less than £160).
Having used the Extreme controller, I can tell you that it will do just about everything that you need it to do.
You can turn individual effects on and off, lock all effects to any one colour (ie select all red lights for a slow dance), lock the gobos open (gives more light), strobe (not that effective on the Extreme units) as well as select the 4 different patterns that Danno mentioned.
The two patterns that Danno said black out do swaping between two sets of lights on the two different channels. If all your lights are set to one channel, then you will get darkness at times!
Best of all, it doesn't need any programming to give a good light show with these lights.
What the Extreme controller won't do is control any other brand of lights. The Abstract club range of controllers will.
Now that you have used the flowers at some gigs, NRgize, how do you find them?

As a user of extreme dj myself i like them. I like the colours and that on them. But at one point i did have something going on where the scans blacked out but i found that it was the XP2 button i had to push down
I use Abstract Extreme DJ XP2 Scanners on my disco and i like them. But i would like to see what theyre like when theyr merged with mad that would be interesting.

Thanks for your post Robbie, I was looking around and guess what I did before logging into DJU tonight ? I brought one of the 2 button controllers from ebay to try with the XP5's
If only I would have signed on here sooner I would have seen!
I have seen a basic Soundlab COntroller and have been advised that this would control the XP5's as they are DMX.
Who knows in the future I might Aquire some futurescans and will then have use for the 3 buttoned controller

What's happened to Abstract? I can't find their website. I know there's Abstract AVR but I cant even find stockists of Abstract disco lights/

I suspect they've thrown in the towel like most UK manufacturers did...the same as EVL, MAD, ACE, Constella, NJD etc. Now just badges on foreign imports.

Its a shame really. Nothing heard of from Abstract now. Once a big company now they only specialise in LED Uplighting. They not even showing themselves at Plasa now.
However I have been lucky with the lights.
I must add since getting them I have never had a single problem with them at all.
They have been used everyday for the past 3 months too and no bulb blown at all !!
Was quite strange reading this post as I posted it quite a few years ago lol

Abstract are still about but are concentrating on LED decor lighting.

although their facebook fan page has suggested they are looking into making DJ lighting again, with led based! I hope so, i have a setup for Weddings of 2 twister 4s, 2 futurescans and 2 revolutions with a club 64 controller and love it!
