Hi all,

Right looking for a centre piece to team with a pair of EVL spins and a couple of Mad scans. Anything spring to mind?

ideally I'd like it take up minimum boot space!

Thanks,
Martin

How about one of those scrolling moving message LED signs...to advertise the Disco name, prompt for requests, congratulate the bride and groom, etc... they're about £200.

Or...

Something slooow... you've got some good effects there for the usual dancing, but smootchies need their own dedicated lighting. A traditional mirror ball would do it, but realistically you need to mount it a couple of feet away/behind at least one pinspot, or point your gobo's at it.

A Lyte-quest (or re-badge) of the "Apollo" is like an "internally lit" mirror ball. A 300watt bulb inside a globe with about 60 white (or multicolour) lenses rotating at a romantic 10rpm (ish)...

Or...

One of the best centrepieces (if you've got the height) at those 8 way (or more) mirrored effects... a bit like a clock, but with a central light source, and a motorised Pan/tilt mirror at the 12'oclock, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 oclock positions (ok thats not 8 mirrors but you get the idea)... all the mirrors twist and turn in sync, in groovy patterns, and the colour and sometimes even gobos, change in patterns too. (but this doesnt help you in the slow spots again...)

The Constella "3E" Event is a good buy, if you do a lot of Weddings, 21st's etc and other functions.

The 3E is a moonflower effect (and can be used as such for "non function" events such as pubs) However it can also display coloured beams with selectable Gobo's including "Wedding", "21st", "Congratulations" etc. Been around for a while, but still quite a novel idea and adds a bit of a personal touch to your events.

I've NEVER forgiven NJD for their "Events Projector" which sounds similar to the Constellation 3E.... I've sold the stupid thing now after getting NO HELP and all the usual avoidance tactics ("he's still in a meeting")

The NJD Events projector had a gobo wheel on-board with about 12 gobo's on it (or was it 8?)...with "Congratulations", "Happy Birthday", "Merry Christmas", "Happy New year" etc... AND (heres the good bit) AND the "promise" of "themed event wheels"...eg: A whole gobo wheel of JUST wedding gobos, or JUST Christmas Gobos...

These themed wheels sounded really great...especially as the projector had a remote control which allowed you to set each gobo to be displayed (each gobo was displayed in 20 places via mirrors) for so many seconds, then the next gobo appeared. Doesnt this sound good so far?....for example, with a Christmas themed wheel in, you could have 20 seconds of "Happy Christmas" gobo's all over the walls and floors bouncing to the beat, automatically changing to 20 seconds of "Snow flakes", 20 seconds of "Christmas trees", 20 seconds of "Santa's", etc etc etc marvelous...

NOT... NJD never released the themed gobo wheels... so I was stuck with just the original "multi-event" wheel....

So, at a wedding you'd get 20 seconds of "Congratulations", then 20 seconds of "Merry Christmas" dry.gif , 20 seconds of "Happy Birthday" unsure.gif , followed by 20 seconds of "Happy New Year" fear.gif and so on...

NJD did give me the contact details of a company that would make up my own themed gobo wheels suitable for the projector...but "one offs" would have cost about £140 each wheel... the whole projector only cost £229.

If it wasn't for the fact that I like my NJD LV4000 light controller and Dimmer pack, I'd really let fly at 'em... mad.gif

Is was about 3 years ago...

Shame really, one of their top guys "Ian" was always very helpful with all sorts of wierd and wonderful configurations of lighting and customising controllers to do "special" things.

This "event projector" was the ONLY NJD product that I've ever had any cause for complaint, and even that wasnt down to hardware, that was down to "over promising" (of the "themed wheels") and under delivering (themed wheels again).

I always felt that a nice arrangement of flowers makes a good centrepiece

I'd like to concur with Chris on this subject. I have in the centre of my current lighting rig a Constella 3E.
It is really quite impressive especially for the ordinary punters who do not see this sort of thing and think that it is a novel idea.
It's a 250w light and I have left mine on sometimes for several hours.
The gobo wheel does not turn automatically during it's function and you can set it on whichever gobo you like for the evening.
You have the facility to have the gobo's twisting to the sound of the music or stationary, ideal for the slowies.
The gobos are really useful with only the 'Happy New Year' gobo being restricted to use on one occasion during the year, but boy it's really impressive with the punters on NYE when at midnight the gobo changes from 'Merry Christmas' to 'Happy New Year'.
The good news is and I think Chris will agree is that the price of these has reduced drastically during the past 18 months.

Thanks Guys,

Gary, I know what mean about slowies. My e-pod controler has a slow/floaty mode which is cool for slowies/background etc.

Will investigate the apollo via websearch, unless Chris flogs it?

I'll definately check the Constella out, can't seem to access the Congleton site from work though! Chris any chance of a price?

Ian, the flowers certainly sound like the simplest solution.

Go for a Green Laser!!! As a centre piece its so good I give it a month and you will want two !!

Spin, what is it with you and green lasers-LOL

Do you stare at them like rabbits in car head lights or something-LOL

I don't sell the Apollo Effect, Sorry. These are the older imported effects that have a very short (expensive) lamp life (CP series 300W) and questionable reliability, so I steer well clear. This may not be an issue for 10 - 15 minutes use per gig.

I sell the 30mw Apollo Green laser for £399 + Delivery, there is a video of it on my website. (The site is up i've just checked! - possibly your firewall at work?)

These will be the last batch of lasers i'm running sad.gif - The HSE have just passed a law preventing distributors like myself from selling these to D.J's. Lasers over 5mw will only now be sold to Installers and NOT to mobile D.J's 014.gif . This will apply to EVERY Sound & Lighting outfit and not just me, so expect to see stocks going Very quickly.

This will hit the industry badly sad.gif

Do you have the Constellar in?

Delivery:- 2 - 3 days from order

Aww nuts! Wanted to get something for the weekend, was gonna use this with a hyper as opposed to my scans.

Placed an order for scan cases (AT ANOTHER DEALER) which has all gone a bit Pete Tong, upshot is the Scans are in their original huge boxes which won't fit in an estate and I have no access to a van this weekend. Hence my need for a small light.

Chris I'll ring you to discuss further.

That is such a shame............... like we don't know how to use them or something.

Then again it makesthose who do already have them more exclusive!! wacko.gif
