Later this week I'm doing an open air gig for the special olympics which starts here next week. The show will end with a fireworks display (whilst it's still daylight - but the competitors have to have an early night).
Any suggestions for music to play during the display would be gratefully received (I've a few ideas but always open to more)

Anything by that Jean bloke who does Laser Shows (Yes Okay I should know his name!)

War Of the Worlds?? wacko.gif

Energy 52 - Cafe' Del Mar

Anything Dance-ish and instrumental with a good beat to it

Just an idea, the theme tune to France 98 world cup by Dario G is there any multi-national.

I think that Chris is thinking of Jean Michel Jarre

Also on the Ibizan style Synth'n' Strings, Sandstorm - perhaps even Dance with the Devil - Cozy Powell.

Good luck, let us all know how you got on

How about,

Safri Duo-Played-a-live (bongo song)
N-trance-set u free (not bad tune)

1812 0verture is often used at big firework displays, but not all of it ,just the middle and final section. Emerson ,lake and palmers version of "fanfare for the common man" might also work?

How about....Bond Themes....Spy who loved me....Moonraker etc.... lots to choose from...

or...the old cliché ones..

Mudd.... Rocket.

Venga Boys: Boom Boom Boom Boom

(if it were Nov5th, you could also have... Jocelyn Brown: Somebody elses GUY....)

Alternatively, I'd suggest a few short pieces of music strung/mixed/faded together. You dont wont the fireworks ending before the music.

If its a particularly short display of Pyrotechnics, dont play "it only takes a minute".... biggrin.gif

I think Chris was gettin at:
O' Fortune Carmina Burana by Carl Orff from the The Omen soundtrack.
It is a pretty spectacular peice of music, very stirring, and just right for a fireworks display.
You can find it on the Mastermix compilation Film Sets, Take 1

The Eve Of The War by Ben Leibrand

Flash by Queen

You can buy special CD's with just 'Music For Lights' tracks on them........Cue Chris.

First of all a big THANK YOU to everyone that replied to this thread thumbup.gif and for the 'Good Luck' sentiments.

The gig happened last night so to report:

When I was initially booked it was for 3hrs - 1st hr background music during the BBQ then 2 hrs of disco then fireworks. When I arrived to set up there had been a 'few' changes; it would seem that everyone wanted to be involved so during the BBQ a brass band (who were very good), then a 'bongo' group from Zimbabwe and some break dancers (also good) followed by a 20min video presentation of the competitors activities since arriving on Mon.

It's now 8.50 and I'm due to finish at 9.30!! The visitors (from Panama) had given me a few CDs of their genre of music so during the video I used the time to pre-listen & choose suitable tracks, mixing in some of our own popular stuff. And what a ball we had. The dance floor was full from the start (and not a drop of alcohol in the place). At 9.30 the organiser came up & asked if I could do another 30mins which I was glad to do.

Then to the fireworks. They were to last 20mins & I had enough suitable music (thanks to you) to cover this but change of plan (there always is when you're on top of the game). A special anthem had been recorded for the games & they wanted this played throughout the fireworks so I just looped it. Gave us a chance to start dismantling the lighting rig which was just as well because as soon as the f/works ended a team started to dismantle the marquee from around us and not a hard hat in sight! Also lucky it wasn't raining.

So all in all a very unusual & enjoyable night plus 2 bookings received for later this summer - life ain't all bad biggrin.gif

During the disco several people came up with their CDs for me to play. Most of the tracks were under 2mins in length but quite uplifting stuff so I was happily fitting them in until one of the interpreters informed me that the lyrics were not entirely suitable for some of the younger people. It would seem that they have their own versions of Eminem laugh.gif Set-up or what.

And I almost forgot.. the snow machine was a big hit. Some of these people had never seen real snow & thought that this was it plus it looked really good floating down in front of the lights.
Thanks again

Paul,
Glad to hear it all went so well, or as our leader Chris might say "I love it when a plan comes together!!

PaulS,
Great to hear that everything went well.
Isn't it a real pleasure doing that sort of event, it makes you realise how pathetically small minded some more able bodied people are.
