Just got back from me op and still feeling a bit under the weather as it were but just wanted to post that the norwegian government have passed a law making the copying of cds over to mp3 files legal. Is this legal in the uk ?

Let's hope so - we have too many laws like "it's not illegal to own it, but it's illegal to USE it."

Cheers,

Jack.

Thats a good law. Good for Norwegians, that is. I would imagine that there have got to be a few elements of small print, otherwise so-called "Playground" copying (eg: "You've got the new so & so album! Wow! Do us a copy will yer?"

Similarly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if theres a "Personal, non-profit making use only" caveat slapped on there for good measure too.

But, its a start.

Interesting timing of the press release though, co-inciding with Sony's news that they've started to release"Un-rippable" CDs. wallbash.gif

It has been also announced that even if there is some form of copy barrier on the cd it is still legal to make an mp3 copy (if you can) . Another thing announced today is that djs and cover bands will in the near future be required to pay and charge vat fear.gif This is being done as said bands and djs are not considered to be entertainers or artistes unless they can prove that they are putting a personal input in their show. I can see a lot of djs putting a lot of mic work in in the future aswell as cover bands changing lyrics !
