Mmmmm, there's some definate players in there............................................ and some definate buffet tracks!
Have you asked what you are supposed to tell guests who ask for amarillo ?
YOU KNOW THEY WILL.
At the moment I seem to be having to play Mr Cristie at least twice per gig, and even then I get people pleading with me to play it again. (my record is 7 times, all during the 2 hours after the buffet)
Hopefully they will concede to popular demand on the night
Good luck anyway, have a good one.
Jay
ps some people refer to dancing queen as a gimmick song. ????

Seems like you and he (and hopefully the guests) are in for a good night, with a hour of exceptions, which you might have to slip in as a choice music bed for the non-dancy parts of the evening... including:
Buzzcocks Cast Flying
Damned Love song
Del Amitri I won‚t take the blame
Garbage Only happy when it rains
Levellers Celebrate
Lightening Seeds Marvellous
Manic Street Preachers Australia
New Radicals Get what you give
Pretenders Kid
Red Hot Chilli Peppers Under the Bridge
Sex Pistols Pretty Vacant
Spizz Energi Where's Captain Kirk
Stranglers Hanging Around

This is definately a point that you'd need to clear with the birthday "boy" at the very beginning of the night. eg: "I see from your list that you've specified -NO AMARILLO -, which is understandable... however, if some of your guests ask me to play it as a request for them to dance and enjoy themselves to, should I play it, or mention that you've asked for it not to be played?" (Ok, I admit, thats a bit of a weighted question...

)
I find that personally, I get a lot of requests in each night, especially at family dos and other multi-age group events, and playing any track more than once means that someone who didn't get their request played due to lack of time, might feel disgruntled. Having said that, I have got 2 seamless loops which load up automatically whenever I cue up "Amarillo", which do make the one play last as long as the crowd want.

Well, this is a 40th birthday party. I think you will find that 40ths are generally speaking not family parties, but mostly friends, so there may not be this issue anyway. Of course, I will assess the audience on the night and respond accordingly.

sorry i have to disagree, Shania twain has produced some great music, man i feel like a women is a class track, as are many others. she's also married to one of the best producers ever (robert 'mutt' lange) and her music is consistantley to a high quality, far better than s club or westlife'.
PS i think that list is great for 40th, especially the vapors and the sex pistols

24 years in the business I think!
This particular one is interesting, I used to do the Leatherhead football club over 18 parties every other week when I was 18 years old, and the the Riverside club in Fetcham. During this period, I built a reputation for playing what the punters wanted. These guys remembered, found me, and booked again for a bit of nostalgia
BTW, I have to agree with Ian! (own taste of music of course)!

I said this a couple of months on another playlist thread, It's quite a normal list and theres a lot of room to move around with that type of list.

As we have been playing Shania longer than most, I have to agree.
But we play a lot of earlier stuff too. Her country/ line dance tracks are very popular with our punters, especially Any Man Of Mine and Who's Bed Have Your Boots Been Under.

Just like DJU then
Anyway, did the gig last night, half a dozen danced to a few tunes, but since a load of guests had not seen each other for many years, it was more of a jukebox service I supplied rather than a dance party, and the music was very well received. Tim from Disconights was also there enjoing the music. I started the evening with about an hour of mixed funky house as background, then played mainly 80's as per the list.
Top reactions to:
Spizzenergy - where's captain kirk
Jam - down in the tubestation at midnight
Martha & muffins - echo beach
The Head - Nothing to do in a town like Leatherhead
Got rid of loads of cards, lots of favourable comments.
Shame you arent here Brian cos i just got a booking for a funky house night, they supply all gear, dj plays what he thinks fit and gets food, free drinks and 350 squids !
