Maybe this is a post where the DJU retailers would like to post into, as well, of course, as regular DJU Members.

For about the 6th or 7th time the audio output lead on one of my Technics SL1210's has dropped a channel - its only plays out of the left channel. In their infinite wisdom, Technics choose not to have a simple pair of phono sockets on the back of the deck, but a stupid "captive" phono lead embedded deep in the innards of the beast. I have tried to open a Technics up a few years back (same type of problem) and gave up after removing the first 30+ screws... fear.gif

The other thing that I'm tempted to get done is to have a very small flightcase style metal recess dish made up (2 of) for installing into the back of both Technics flightcases with Phono sockets, Earth connector, and maybe a power IEC socket, so that the original Technics leads get "put out to pasture" connected once and once only to the back of the metal recess dish, as it looks like I'll have to continue with vinyl for a little while longer than I anticipated.

So, between Hampshire, and Wiltshire - wheres a good place to take the wretched thing for a replacement lead and a couple of flightcase modifications? 533.gif

once you get inside its a really quick problem to fix, ive changed the original cables on mine to new and better quality ones

gary, ive got the old style flightcases for my technics and touch wood the leads have been going strong with no problems since 1987. i was thinking of buying another pair in 1990 and at the time the flightcases had pannel with the female plugs conected to the back of the case but they were around £180. so they are available somewhere but it means scrapping your other 2 or selling them.

Did my mates like this. bit of a DIY job but its not too hard....

CPC/Maplin for the IEC pannel mount socket, a 5 pin DIN socket, a small box to put the wires on the indside together... 5pin din on a wire with jack or phono and earth lead at the other end....

only takes a couple of hours....

another thing about loosing the right channel, take off the cartridge and lick the pins then put it back on, the problem cud be that connection, happend to a friend of mine

carts losing a channel is common, when playing a club i always take my own becuase i know they are in goo condition and working fine....

my current set of 1210's are 10 years old and (touch wood) have never had a real problem...

Gary you love your little DIY projects , why not make some thing up to stop this happening....

Well, this time last year, I was hoping that I'd be Vinyl-free by this time this year - without having to budget for replacement styli, carts, or repetitive repairs.

Selling both the Technics inx flightcases would have enabled me to break even on what they cost me in repairs and consumables over the years (19 or so years in fact), but at the moment I still use one at gigs, and eventually hope to use the one thats based at home for vinyl to CD-R transfer, once I get my list of vinyl sorted by record label.

I'll try an intensive look at the cart wires, and try swapping the headshells (with carts) over in a couple of days, just in case its not the cable yet again.

Panasonic in fact modified the later 1210/2 decks by fitting an inspection cover under the tonearm. You can easily change the phono leads and earth cable from there. The earlier ones are, quite rightly, a fiddle. Use an electric screwdriver, it'll save your wrist....

I'm getting my technics 1210's modified soon, as the ground lead snaps easily. And had to have it taken for repair 4 times already. fear.gif sad.gif

So I'm getting a professional disco repair shop to add an IEC mains outlet, ground terminal and red and black phono terminals to my Technics. Just hope it doesn't cost hundreds to do that modification. fear.gif

And then if a lead breaks I can just go to maplin etc and buy a new one the next day tongue.gif ; instead of having it sit weeks in a repairshop to get it replaced.
