I've just quoted for a retirement party being organised for someone by their co-workers. At first I was just thinking about treating it like a 60th birthday party (music wise) but I just wondered about putting in some more appropriate songs. It'll be a mix of ages so I'll have to cover a wide selection of years, but has anyone got any suggestions that would be relevant to retiring - I'm thinking "When I'm 64" or "Labour of Love (ain't gonna work for you no-more)", that kind of thing. They might not be appropriate in style but it could throw up some interesting suggestions.
Cheers,
Jack.

So Long Farewell would go down well LOL
I like the others too - not sure if I'd get away with them, but something to think about.
"Working on a Chain Gang" might be appropriate ;)
Thanks,
Jack.

try alot of soul and motown and bring in the more dancy old stuff later i.e. drifters, and maybe some 70s disco if they seem a restless crowd

I have one of these to do on Thursday. I will just look at the agegroup at the function and go from there.

I think that's the best way to do it. It will be a mixed age crowd, so a little for everyone will probably go down well. I'd still like to play something relevant after they've made their speech (I'll find out on Monday if I've got the gig).
Cheers,
Jack.

Joe Dolce -Shutupa your face ? Perhaps
Would of thought that a lot of the guests are colleagues and that can be a wide spectre of ages. After you have done a starting set of music for the retiree! Suggest you play music for the agegroup that have most representitives and read it on from there.

LMAO - that's cruel ;)
You're right though - play it by ear and see where the numbers are. I think it will be a "chatting, drinking" kind of evening anyway.
Cheers,
Jack.
