Professional Mobile Disco & Wedding Disco
Gary
I've been sent a matrix of boxes with things written in them - you'd have to see it to beleive it. I've going to have to re-type it, just to get it into some sort of workable/readable order - otherwise I'm likely to read something wrong off of it.

First Dance - Berlin: Take My Breath Away (ok, not too bad - makes a change from Armageddon)

YES PLEASE:
Indie / New Wave Acts But Only Those with Female Singers huh.gif
eg: Blondie, The Pretenders, Garbage, The Cardigans, Catatonia.

NO THANKS:
Boy Bands Eg: Busted, McFly, Celione Dion (Honestly she was in the No Boy Bands Box)

ROCK ACTS TO CONSIDER:
REM, Evanvescence, Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand

ROCK ACTS TO AVOID:
Anything "too hard" or "too Heavy" except for Evanescence.

R&B ACTS TO CONSIDER
Alicia Keys
All Saints

R Kelly
Mark Morrison
Nelly
Anything with lots of Gansta Rap posturing. kid.gif

Bananarama
The Bangles
Madonna
Neneh Cherry

80s STUFF TO AVOID
Wham!
Rick Astley

OTHER POP ACTS TO CONSIDER:
Shakira
The Corrs
Belle Fire
Sugababes
Dances with actions like "The Time Warp" and "The Macarena"

OTHER REQUESTS TO PLAY
All about Eve - Marthas Harbour
Billy Idol - (3 guesses anyone? yep!) White Wedding
Cornershop - Brimfull of Asha
Culture Club "Karma Chameleon"
Divine Comedy "National Express"
Divine Comedy "Songs of Love" (Theme tune to "Father Ted") (wonder if theres a remix to dance to)
Elton John & Kiki Dee - "Dont go breaking my heart"
George Michael - "Careless Whisper"
Madness - "Baggy Trousers"
Madness - "It must be love"
Ocean Colour scene - "The day we caught the train"
Panjabi MC - "mundain to bach ke"
Rod Stewart - "Do ya think I'm sexy"
Santana "Smooth"

Stereophonics - "have a nice day"
Spice Girls - "2 become 1"

Possible Last Dances:
Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes (I've had) the time of my life
Robin Beck - "First time"

Overall, not actually too bad a list, except for a few tracks there are definately "buffet background material" rather than dancing tunes, but thats ok.

whistling.gif Interesting (perhaps) that most of what they've said "NO!" to are male...add to that, their comment earlier about "only bands with female singers"...(I'm taking my long blonde wig I think)...
YourBigEvent
Have you confirmed the booking, if I hadn't I know what I would do.
Kingy
I remember the good old days when we never, NEVER, got play lists. They seem to be more common these days, I have had one for this Saturday and its 5 A4 sheets!!!
jackcu
Like I said on another thread - I've got no major probs with a play list like that - at least you know where they're coming from. If they put times beside the songs THEN I'd start to worry ;)

Cheers,

Jack.
John Kidd
The play list is managable with a difficult slant, it sounds like another one where the B&G would have been better to employ a Jukebox!
High Fidelity
I'm glad I don't get playlists like that. The music request form that I send to the customer only has space for 20.

It looks like they could have a good sense of humor though with the requests for Divine Comedy - National Express, and Dances with actions like "The Time Warp" and "The Macarena.
Gary
I've got to admit, I did check the happy couples christian names, just to make sure that it was a male and a female name inlove.gif biggrin.gif as there seemed to be a fair bit of anti-male group/artist requests.

My next task before Saturday, in fact, I'll do it here on the thread, is going to be to shuffle the songs on that list around into "Dancey", "mid-paced" (R&B etc), "Slowies/Ballads" and "Buffet material".

Not in any sort of running order - that'll happen on the night, but simply grouped into loose genres/sections. Obviously some of the groups/artists have songs which they've released which fit into more one of the above categories eg: The Corrs have a few up-tempo tunes, but several good buffet style songs too.
robbiedj
At least they gave you some lee-way in the list.

It does say "consider" rather than "must play", and you get to pick tracks that are not specified. biggrin.gif

It's very workable and your experience is all it needs. thumbup.gif

Sort it to your ideal and enjoy the evening.

First Dance - Berlin: Take My Breath Away (ok, not too bad - makes a change from Armageddon)

Had that last sat they only had 33 guests in a room that held 200 it was a long night wallbash.gif

I have had worse request list than that but its still a bit over the top i got my request list of 25 songs on the morning of the gig lucky i had most of them 533.gif
RobbieD
Not a bad list - I'm sure we've all had much worse.

And, Gary, you've done a good job in separating the music out in to sets. It’s exactly that kind preparation that sets apart you and most of the other guys & girls on this forum from your average "just turn up & play" DJ.

But, depending on the crowd, I'm not sure that I would classify Punjabi MC as buffet music. My experience is that anyone Asian or in to R&B goes wild to this one. (Not meaning to stereo type anyone.) Certainly at corporate functions in the London area it has always been a massive floor filler for me.

Wait till you see mine for Sunday laugh.gif

I will post it presently....
Corabar Steve
Could be worse one of our jobs on saturday sent so many advanced requests that we decided to run a check on our database.

Combined running time of the requests was 14 mins longer than the gig!!!!

I thought that was great!! cool.gif

I'd put Franz Ferdinand in with the dancing music myself.. Take me out is usually a good floorfiller for me. Ocean Colour Scene could also possibly work in a 90s rock/indie type set.
