I've found very little "Performance" difference between the Technics SL1210's and the "half the price" (ish) Numark TT-200's.
Of course, whether or not a TT-200 would last 17+ years on the road, like my own Technics, remains to be seen. But then, they wont have to, since vinyl probably wont be around to buy in 17 years.
The only downside on the TT-200 was a weird performance that it gave when a mobile phone was placed alongside it...(more details on this...in the reviews section of the forum).
Considering the number of minor tweaks that Technics keep making to the (quickly replaced) MkIII, the IV (some countries only?), and now the MK V, they've still not changed the captive audio leads for a decent pair of Phono connectors... I've got thru about 6 of these leads on my pair of decks, with parts and labour steadily increasing from £18 for the first ever replacement, to £32 for the most recent. But then you dont buy a record deck expecting there to be no on-going running costs, eg: a couple of hundred pounds of styli and carts every year...(Multiply that by 17 years and you'll see another reason why I love CD decks...)
If theres ever a MK VI (probably out next month going by the short stock life of the MKIII

) maybe Technics will come to their senses and change it too removable leads like any other modern audio product.
Nice, hardworking mule of a deck in other respects though, although if I were to replace my Technics EG: If they went BANG or "Walkies"... I'd probably go for the TT-200s or the Gemini PDT-6000 (There must be an X in that model number somewhere...).
