Hmmm, if I were told that the Birthday "Boy" at a 60th liked Gospel Music, I'd aim at including 3 or 4 suitable tracks during the buffet (if there is one), or the "Come in, sit down, natter" part of the evening. The man will probably realise that his favourites may not be everyone elses favourites (at least, not to dance to) , and might not want to see the dancefloor empty rapidly, when a tune for him comes on.

Aside from specialist Gospel Music CD's, theres always the Film Soundtrack CD's of "Sister Act / Sister Act 2". biggrin.gif

I have got a gospel version of happy birthday which could work quite well.

A couple of things, Steve Martin Film called a Leap of faith, there are good songs on the soung track.

Where do you live, check out in your town for a shop called CFC or SPCK. These will be able to help you.

If you have no JOY, i can give you some artist names and tracks, but we would need to know, What church (united reform, methodist, CofE) and Style, as there are many different types

Let me know and i will find some!

I couldn't find a CD of happy birthday jingles.

Ulitmate do a two CD set of Happy Birthday Jingles, and also a "Special Occasions" 2 CD set which covers virtually everything else you could want eg: St Patricks Day, New Years Eve, Christmas, Engagements...etc,etc....

It really does depend on what sort of background church / religion wise you're coming from - like any specific musical requests, I would be inclined to get suggestions for up to 6 tracks from either the birthday boy or someone close.

Essentially anything from Oh happy day (traditional) to Shackles by Mary Mary

Anything by the London Gospel Community Choir

Good luck

The original would work far better:

Take Yo' Praise - Camille Yarbrough

it's available on a few compilation albums including Sampled Volume 1.
Fatboy Slim sampled this track to use on Praise you.

There are some great gospel groups around such as Sounds of Blackness and also The Steeles. Both groups do a combination of soul and gospel. Sounds of Blackness have a track called "Optimistic" that is great for the dancefloor and one of the most uplifting tracks you'll ever hear. It's a biggie at many of the soul-all-dayers/weekenders. Another good track for the dancefloor from this group is I'm going all the way.

There are some very well known gospel tracks such as Swing low sweet chariot (it's not ONLY an England rugby chant!), amazing grace, Oh happy day, Peace in the valley, the original of Wings of a dove and many more.
