I'm trying to find the perfect song to play after good old Van's Brown Eyed Girl. As you will know, when people dance to this song they tend to be slightly older, so the tempo should be similar. I've thought about Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, Tony Christie and Barry Mannilow, but I am still striving to find that perfect song. Any thoughts?

Try the Commitments version of 'In the midnight hour' by Wilson Picket.

This version has a Great Start and tends to work well for me.

Last time I followed it with " You can call me Al". Worked well on that occasion.

I do Andy Williams - Can't take my eyes off you smile.gif

We tend to use it to lead up to reggae set and follow with either Dr Hook When You're Love With A Beautiful Woman or Boy George Everything I Own.

Barry White - My First.....
nrgize
Foundations - Build me up buttercup goes down well after that. Has same kind of tempo. Always works for me. I normally play this song nearer the end of my 60's set, then move on to 70's. But every disco is different and doesnt always work out that way

I know there are probably a number of different recordings of Van Morrisons's "Brown Eyed Girl", but the one I use has the:

"Sha-la-la-la, la-la, la, la." bit at the end... guess which current song begins with those words???

I know there is a tempo change, but you can exit Brown Eyed Girl and go into Tony Christie - (Is This The Way To) Amarillo.

Otherwise, the suggestions above would all work well and many of which I have used after the Van Morrison track.

A bit faster but how about Monkees - I'm a believer?
BigBen
Thanks guys'n'gals - a tremendous selection there, enough to cover lots of occassion's and genre's there.

You've all excelled! Take the rest of the day off!

I'm going to.

Neon9 I do exactly the same but come to think of it i can never think of what to follow Dance the Night Away with. I've been using Shamrock Tell me Ma and just going into a faster mix. any suggestions?
Steve
After Van Morrison usually build me up or stuck in the middle or sometimes all right now if thats the direction im taking it.

After Mavs...try Shania - feel like a woman.....a lot of guys do actually dance to this track if you hit the right audience...generally not too young (<30!!!) or 1st / last / everything / or Dont stop movin.....most of the function stuff will work depending on where you want to play from

Cotton eyed joe - Rednex

Edit: got the wrong end of the stick there (missread the post). Mambo number 5 or Livin' la vida loca always go down well after the Maverics
YourBigEvent
Dance the night away, could be followed with Livin' La Vida Loca - Ricky Martin
Dynamicdiscos
You said it yourself Barry Manilow - Loco in Acapulco
(Is that how it is spelt?)

I'm affraid I have to agree Amarillo would also work well.
YourBigEvent
Did Barry Manilow do Loco, I thought it was The Four Tops ?

I cannot explain how much this topic helped me last night. It has helped me to focus on songs I may not have played together, or even in the same set.

I took on board all of your comments and ran with a number of them, and added my own. I listed all the tracks down and sorted a chunk of them into a set list which I tried to play last night. Naturally the floor was chopping and changing so I couldn't stick to the whole program (never expected to!).

I want to thank everyone for their input; last night ranks among my top two gigs ever and I'm sure it was because I approached with a fresh confidence. See what you think to the list:

Steelers wheel - stuck in the middle
Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl
Commitments - Mustang Sally
Wilson Picket - In the midnight hour
Drifters – You’re More than a number in my little red book
Billy Joel – Uptown Girl
Phil Collins - cant hurry love
B52’s - Love Shack
Tony Christie - (Is This The Way To) Amarillo
Lou Bega - Mambo number 5

I actually ended up breaking this list into two thanks to requests that came in during The Drifters.

I also got a request for Cha Cha Slide, so I played that after Mambo Number 5...to great effect.

Thank you all once again; the power of this forum helped to give 150 punters a fabulous time last night.
