Hi Guys

I have an old old Audio Technica Mike dont know the model but bought it for £65 in 1985.

But to be honest I thing its only fit for a spare.......

Yes Shure, Yes this yes that but what do you really think....Personally

I dont think as a Dj we need a top of the range Shure for many £££££ but then again a cheap plastic mike from Comets at 9.99 is probably not good enough.

Please give my your view and suggestions.

many thanks jason

I have a couple of the AKG WMS40 UHF Radio Mics as my main microphones, they cost me about £200 4 years ago, I also have a PRO 7 (????????) VHF Radio mic that cost me about £120 8 years ago, and a few cheap corded mics, I see that Behringer do a set of 4 for about £30 too, so these may be good as a karake mic

PG range is cheaper than the SM & just as good for DJ work.

Try as many as you can.

SM58s are ok, I use them for band PA work.

I personally ( and only me!!) use a beyer TGX 60. Not cheap, but great quality.

If you come across Tbone mics, they are excellent value for money mics and are well worth watching out for. They copy everyones!!

SM58 is a tough industry standard. Try and find a Beyer M260N, the quality is far better than the SM58, you may find one on ebay as I don't think it is made anymore. I had mine factory refurbished for £100 last time, but it is worth every penny.

For me its the SM58, had mine over ten years now..still going strong:)

I use a shure beta 58, the quality is superb. Wouldn't use anything else bar shure now.

Whilst you're thinking about getting a new mic, think about what you need and what you'd like. Would the freedom of a cordless mic be of use to you ? Probably if you get out from behind the decks at all.

If you've got the chance try to borrow or hire some different mics to see what you like and get on with.

I use a shure headset mic (looks a bit poncy, but gives you both hands to work with) which I find great.

Yea defo Sm58.. I have 2 ,switched and un-switched.... I got my switched direct from America (although you buy from a brit site) and it only cost me £75. Plus it only took 3 days to come. I got it through ebay but here is the site .

Just to be different (LOL) I have an SM57 - same capsule as the SM58 but without the pop shield - it allows you to get closer to the capsule which delivers a different proximity effect (I read that bit in the manual - no idea what it means ;)

But to be honest I mostly use a cordless east European bit of junk I bought on eBay for about £15. It's perfectly fine for the amount of talking I do and I don't care if someone drops it (unless it's up HIGH).

For quality in dynamic mics, I'd go with the Shures.

Cheers,

Jack.
