I was the resident DJ at the nightclub in the Sheraton hotel in Damascus, Syria. You had to be seriously loaded to afford to drink in the club and to give you an indication, the cover charge was the equivalent of a local persons 2 months salary!!(just to get in!)
I am hardly ever sick, and in all my long years of DJ'ing have never missed a nights work through being ill... with one noteable exception...
The club mentioned above was being hired out by one of the richest men in the middle east for a private birthday party, and there were to be top singers, belly dancers
In those days, almost everbody who worked in the middle east, eventually succumbed to the runs at some point. For me it happened on the afternoon of this big party; I could not leave the toilet seat for more than 30 seconds
This continued through to the evening and I was just about able to reach the phone to let the club manager know that I wouldn't be able to dj that night. He told me not to worry and he asked the sound engineer to cover for me for that night.
The party was a well over the top lavish affair and was a resounding success, and at the end of the night, the host went to every performer and threw a huge bundle of notes at each of them... US$100 bank notes!!... including the "dj"
To say that I was gutted when I was told this the following day would be onehelluva understatement
Oh well; at least I've never missed a nights performance through being sick since then
Someone tell me a more frustrating tale, just to make me not feel so bad
