So what is the latest "NEW" idea you have that you intend to use or try at one of your functions?
brianmole
I think I may try some dmx controller once I understand how to use it. Also, I may use Traktor DJ on the road running off a Mac later this year.

I went on a VJing course, will try that later this year.

I was also thinking about getting my mugshot wearing a colander tongue.gif

My 2 year old DMX controller is getting a maiden test tonight...

Sub groups on my mixer are next, so can have two different sources playing in two different rooms at the same time, controlled by one desk

My latest addition is a few new pary games. But I have got a 40th comming up soon where I am going to try out Limbo with the adults biggrin.gif Party bags are my other latest idea but I'm still working on that one.

I have also got a DMX contraoller which I need to fix but only have 2x DMX light so far. But I might have more in time for my 1st wedding in Oct.

Hi

Introducing my new 15 band graphic eq tomorrow night, doing the sound check this evening.

Also, have just ordered some inflatable musical nstruments for the kids gigs we've got coming up.

Also, pretty soon I'm going to have a little experiment with putting a webstore on my site selling party goods, inflatables, masks etc.

Also this evening gotta see if I can get my evl colour changers to work in a way that makes some kind of sense, lol last week they changed when the music stopped and stop when the music started, weird!

im going to invest in some novelty items glo sticks, inflateables ect but dont know whether to give them away as goodwill or sell them as a sideline.

plus a nice mediterranian female roadie if i could find one.
Dynamicdiscos
Glow sticks are great. Try and sell them as an extra if you can there is a lot of profit to be made.

I always give glo-sticks away free and it gets a great reaction from the kids and parents alike. In my opinion it would feel very cheap to expect parents to pay for these items and rather than leaving your client and their friends/family with a good impression of you they instead may be left with the perception of moneygrabbing individual 533.gif

And try and work into getting a local consortium of DJ's in the Cheshire / Staffordshire / Lancs area from this forum to work together. This doesn't mean an agency type set up but more of a goodwill partnership based on the long forgotten but never equalled barter and honesty system smile.gif . This basically means DJ's from around the same region sharing and passing work on that they cannot do, covering each other backs in the event of illness or equipment failure and also sharing the expenses of attending larger fashion shows, Premium Advertising etc and sharing equally the benefits and the return - what goes around comes around.

It certainly wont happen overnight, and it'll take time and effort on those interested individuals to set up, but we are all talking which is a good thing patriot.gif

I guess C.S has never been described as an inspiration before scared.gif , but I know his and Dan's thread sparked off a few ideas, even though most of the other members didn't look beyond the banter to the more serious aspect and the benefits within. After all, with all of these cowboys about cowboy.gif , and the many threads discussing them, wouldn't it make more sense to tackle the problem as a regional united front, rather than just whinging about it as individuals but essentially not doing anything practical?.

I took part in the group buy of glowsticks that Chris organised.

I handed them out for free to the kids at my sons' school disco around
Christmas time. It looked so cool to drive home seeing hundreds of
kids in Maryhill (not a great area) all with the glowsticks. I'll remember
it for a long time.

Small world - I used to work in Maryhill in the 80's.

I'm going to get a little more interactive and plan evenings more than I do at present. I pretty much go with the flow and just play music - which is fine for most gigs but I've been at a few parties where the DJ took more control than I try to do. I'm also beefing up my set-up (making it look more professional) and going to advertise when I have everything in place.

Cheers,

Jack.

I decided to try something new last Saturday - I hate lightscreens but the front of my show looks awful - which is why I have never posted a picture on here. So I took High Fidelity's idea on board and ran with it...I got two mic stands with a bar across to create a frame, purchased a £5.99 black bed sheet and raided the Christmas box for some lights.

Having set up in the afternoon I arrived in the evening walking just behind the groom, I honestly heard him go "wow" as he saw my show:
The Big Ben Show!

It might not look too good now - end of the night, room lights on at one end and me rushing with a photo - but in the dark with all the lights going it looked most respectable.

I now plan to adapt this - get another sheet, maybe signwritten, and better lights. I will also do away with the two mic stands in favour of fixing the pole to each speaker stack - I will have different holes in the top speaker for different width shows too.
YourBigEvent
My only problem with it is packing the lights down at the end of the night, and getting them out at the next gig, tangled up !
BigBen
That is the fun part - the only lights I've got that are wide enough are 4m x 4m. What you can see on the picture is actaully just under half-size - they go right over the top all the way down the other side and rest on the floor! Hence the reason for getting lights that fit!

Go for it CP !

Thats exactly how I feel Jack.
I like a more structured night and I would like to take more control.

That's the way forward. CSs' article was very interesting, and Dans thread was excellent too.
