Having just come back from another trip, what do you do about the seecurity of your gear, I set up and left it for the 3 days, laptops, speakers etc.
Would you have done it ?

I know 3 pretty good secure venues but try not to leave any gear there what-so-ever.

Last summer I did most Friday and Saturday nights in a greek restaurant. I left most of my gear set up for the weekend. I took my CD's. Players and mixer back with me though.
The only other place I would leave my kit is a community centre where I know the people who run it very well. But on most occasions I wouldn't take the risk.

would the insurance cover you though for leaving your kit unattended.

Only if im doing the same venue more than twice in a row and only if there is real security.
but i would rather set up and take down than risk losing anything....

Only overnight for a two day booking.
The lap-top and all leads come home with me and deck stand is covered and pushed back against the wall. Lights are lowered on the goal post and pushed back.
Mind you, I only do this in places I know they will respect the gear.

Our local venue is pretty good, when doing a Disco there I can always leave it behind for a day or 2 as they fully alarm the hall and as its a private venue (kinda like a working mens club) i am covered by their insurance (so I'm told by the manager), and I get on well with the people that run it.
But any other cases I will only leave my lighting stands If i had to behind and nothing more!

the worst gig we ever had, me and my mate had a BBgun under the booth, just in case bogans crashed the party...and we had to protect our gear.

a BB GUN is just like a real gun (usually not a revolver but a glock 9mm etc)although it fired either plastic or metal pelets.
if close enough can penetrate the flesh although most only have a range of about 30-40 ft and just hurt and bruise etc. Easy to get hold of.
Any way my security is at home where at the back of the function room is two walk in store rooms/cuboards. All my gear in there although just a basic lock in the door. Although a friend off mine is cutting me a steel sheet the size of the door to be screwed on the inside. In case any one decides to knock the door through.

Known over here as a "chav" (now a national term)... various terms were used over the country before that, here we called them "townies" in brum they were called "kevs" and "shazzas" and up north "scallies"....
