As I was walking past Cash Converters today I saw a used Chauvet Salsa for £59.

I seemed to remember seeing one of these in my local disco store at something like £150, and thought I remembered it having a lot of gobos, so I gambled and bought it.

Have tested it on sound and it all works fine, in fact I'm really impressed. Sharp clear gobos, sound interpretation is spot on, and yes, 16 gobos. If I came across another at this kind of price I would definitely buy another, even though they are no longer a current model.

The trouble now is, I can't find any technical info about the dip switch settings, what DMX protocol it uses etc. etc.

It has the usual pair of XLR plug & socket and also a 1/4" jack socket.

So, how many questions can I get into one post.

Was it a decent price? (mind you, I don't care. I like it for the price)

Does anyone know what DMX protocol it uses?

Anyone know where I can get a users manual from? I've checked Chauvet's web site and can't find anything and I've searched on the web.

Does anybody else use these, and what do you think of them?

Any help much appreciated.

It looks like the Soundlab Vista.... Knowing Soundlab the info sheet that comes with the light wont be very helpful.............. Sorry Paul not much help, but its aleast a reply...... biggrin.gif

oh yeah and seen them advertised new at £119

To be honest the unit only has 2 DMX channels so there are only so many dip-switch options, I would think it will simply be a head number selection.

Ring Electrovision on 01744 745000 and ask to speak to Simon, ask for a PDF datasheet on the Soundlab DMX Vista.

I believe they are the same unit.

Cheers for the idea Craig, but I have a pair of Vista's that were bought new and have the user guides for them.

Although they are very similar in appearance to the Chauvet Salsa they are quite different.

Vista has 14 gobos, Salsa has 16.
Vista moves the mirror in time with the music and moves the gobos to it's own internal program.
Salsa moves both the mirror and gobos in time with the music.
Salsa has a jack socket on the rear which I assume is for a blackout remote switch.

I have manged to establish that they are DMX512 and yes they are only 2 channel. Have emailed Chauvet, but in the meantime I might just have a play with the dip switches. (if I get any spare time wallbash.gif )

Chauvet products in the UK are imported by CIE Group of Nottingham. (Formerly Canadian Instruments & Electronics Ltd.)

They have a download centre and friendly staff in general:

Thanks for the link Kev, but it's not there.

The model is ECH 315X.

Still no reply from Chauvet, what a surprise.

Does anyone ever get a reply when they try to contact a manufacturer?
High Fidelity
Astounded, surprised, incredible fear.gif

About 10 minutes ago I re-sent the email to Chauvet about the manual, thinking I'll just keep re-sending it every 2 weeks till they get fed up of me.

Have just received the manual by email 533.gif .

Maybe the first one got lost somewhere. wallbash.gif

Hey that's great news, could you email me a copy of the manual for future reference?

Yeah sorry about the duff link, but I was speaking to them on the phone the other day and I know they're still there! Still, its academic now!

PS If you ring CIE, they sometimes answer 'hello, Chauvet UK' depending on which extension you get.

Yeah sorry about the duff link

Nothing wrong with the link Kev, it just didn't have the Salsa on it. thumbup.gif
