i'm using an olympus digital camera, so how do i get a decent picuture of my set up? is it flash on ? flash off ? totally dark room? please help with your advice

When I took pictures of my set-up, I turned the flash off to take pics of lights in fog (dark room) and flash on for pics of equipment used (eg cd players etc...)

I agree on this one if you want to show off your lighting setup then its flash off.

At least now with a digital camera I get the chance to pre-view the results. Some years ago I set up all my gear in a local hall to take some promo photos armed with a 35mm camera & 4 rolls of film. I used different aperature & speed settings to experiment & didn't get a single decent photo from all of them!! 014.gif
I'm still trying various options with the digital and it seems to work better if there's some natural light (but not too much) in the room &, as Spin says, use it without the flash.
The photos on my web site were taken using a borrowed digital camera set up in front of my TV whilst playing back a video of the night!!! Not the best way to get quality but it worked as a stop gap (2yrs ago).

i need to borrow a digi camera to take some photos of my setup - ive wasted soo many exposures with my aps camera it just isnt funny. Ive got some nice ones of the actual setup but as soon as you try and get some lightbems etc its just useless

Whilst taking picture's of your light's in fog, stop the light's from moving, as this will stop any blurs in the photo. 1028.gif

Or if you are really into blurring and that get a mate like I did (He works for Fords and travels round the world taking pictures of their new motors all day)

We set it all up in a hall then he put a twenty minute time lapse exposure on, plenty of smoke and lasers, awesome photos!!
