Its strange in some ways, yet reassuring in others that some tracks are pretty much universal, well at least "international", and others are very much more nationalised.

For example:

Procul Harem & The Big Chill - A Whiter Shade Of Pale (3:56)

George Harrison - My Sweet Lord (4:32)
Daniel Boone - Beautiful Sunday (2:57)
Eydie Gorme - Blame It On The Bossa Nova (2:25)
Peter Sarstedt - Where Do You Go To My Lovely (5:13)
Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army (2:46)
Paper Lace & Priscilla Queen Of The Desert - Billy Don't Be A Hero (3:43)
The Loving Spoonful - Summer In The City (2:35)
Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding - Sexual Healing, Dock Of The Bay (6:13)
The Drifters - Save The Last Dance For Me (2:26)
Beach Boys - Sloop John B (2:53)

Which ones were less typical in your opinion? I'll be interested to know. I'll post a recent wedding playlist shortly.

Of course, some of the differences might be regional variation/taste, but of course your clients might have stipulated "Lots of Cat Stevens please" or "several Neil Diamond please".

Interesting. The Neil Diamond tracks were 18 songs apart, which relates to over an hour in real time and were during the cocktail/background music segment, but Cat Stevens was a specific request, yes.

A lot of those others were familiar older tracks that get very little airtime these days and are some of my 'quirky' secret weapons. Try digging around your older tracks for songs that were big 20 or 30 years ago and sneak them in durning dinner one time. You'll be surprised at how much feedback you might get.

I tell people that I play some of the most seriously uncool and cheesy music of any of the DJ's around. You know the sort of stuff- music that everyone knows the words to and feels they have to dance to provided none of their friends are watching.....
