Doesn't it annoy you when you're cruising through a good dance spot, after finally getting the crowd on their feet and someone comes up and asks for some R&B!!!! nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

Justin Timberlake, ja rule, R Kelly etc....

LOL....

R. Kelly is in the charts! (number 1 i think he's reached with ignition remix) but justin timberlake SUCKS. What he does is just pop! god....he should die with the rest of the bubble gum music crew. Ja rule is weak! he says he's a rapper, but he's doing R&B with someone else! never by himself...... but anyways, some R&B is good, but the really slow ones suck unless u want a slow dance. I personally like R&B as long as it has a GOOD bass line

I'm getting good results and fuller dancefloors to R'n'B tracks than ever before. Plus its easy to mix.
However, there is a big "Fuzzy" grey area in some peoples minds as to what IS R'n'B and what isnt.
For example...Mary J Blige: Family affair, has a really good beat/bassline, but some people dont think of it as R'n'B, and others do...
Boils down to that old piece of advice, that when a punter comes up an asks for a "style" or "genre" of music, say something to him/her, like "What artist(s)/song did you have in mind?".... which tends to help clear up most misunderstandings. If they turn around and say, "dunno, You're the DJ", then just offer a couple of suggestions and see what they say...if they dont think much of your suggestions then they'll normally respond with a couple (finally) of their own.
I should have been a bit more specific in my opening thread. All my work is mobile stuff, just general cheesy tunes like weddings usually are. There was an occasion last Saturday night where I had the majority of the crowd on the floor and someone comes and asks for R Kelly-Igniton. I could be wrong but I just thought it was a little too slow for the type of music I was playing. I put it on towards the end of the night when people were chilling and she clapped sarcastically. I just find it difficult to get any sort of party when I keep getting asked for R&B. I don't know, maybe I'm getting past it!!

Alot of R'n'B is slower than some people care to dance to.
For example, a couple of years back, there was the Destinys Child song, Independant Woman...(Theme from Charlies Angels)...The "ordinary" version was too slow, the Dance version too fast...
Thankfully, I've got a decent key Adj/Master tempo, which allows you to pitch songs up or down by wild percentages without the vocals sounding like Chipmunks or, at the other end of the scale, Darth Vader. You can easily "get away with" running a 105bpm song at +10% (making it a fairly dance-able 110+BPM) without the audience noticing too much...it seems to be the key (squeaky voices) which gives it away.
