another question... but this one on the grounds of not wanting to totally blow all my cash.........
things like the HK LUCAS systems use a bass speaker with the amps and then you power the tops from there........ two tops, one bass.... with me ???
If i were to buy a set of active speakers (collating information, i hate parting with cash.. especially this much) of the 12" main driver variety bass would be lacking so for big venues... not great.
Would it be possible to buy a single active bass unit (the sub12 being only 19kg hurray) and llink it all together....... or do i need a pair. Help please ???!!!!
Unsure am i.....could prove costly these mistakes......
anyone know of a decent reseller in the essex area that i could visit to hear all these different speakers..... ?
thanks all
Jools

Well I don't think you can buy seperate bass bins(with amps), but you would easily be able to link 2 bins each to one top
I just picked the old version of the lucas 1000 up which is the 15" bin i believe.

hi jools,
you will have no problem buying a single active sub, and it will work fine with your active mid/tops.
if you look at a lot of on line dj shops they sell them per speaker.
all you have to do is mixer to sub in, and sub out to one mid/top in.
im also looking to buy a active sub but most are too heavy for me.
what one have you seen thats only 19kg. they would go with my FBT maxx4 at 16kg

Getting a single powered sub is no problem. Buy a Mackie SW1501 from the Music Corporation in Bournemouth. I got a pair delivered to Northern Ireland from there and saved nearly £600 on the price I was being quoted over here. These subs are fantastic and have a suberb punch. The only downside is there on the weighty side at 40Kgs each.

i guess what what i was worried about was the nature of bass
does bass come in stereo... in which case is a singe sub gonna through off the system.... ?
and the sub i was looking at at only 19 kg is
(not sure on how to create url)
http://www.dbtechnologies.com/mod_produkte...gid=5&psugid=17seen them place for about 500 GBP.
Reason lokoing is that that I am getting more and more swayed by DB Tech as their new range (the basic) is 550wrms for the powered tops (16.5kg) and a sensible price to then add a single sub
this is why i am after a reseller in essex to go have a listen.........

The human ear has difficulty in identifying the location
of low frequency sound so it's quite common to have
only a single sub - in fact mnny crossovers for bi-amping
provide a dedicated mono output for subs for exactly
this reason - the idea being that even if you have
2 subs you should place them close together and use
mon output as this will increase the response of your
system (ie I've seen people argue that two mono subs
placed together perform better than two stereo subs placed apart).
I'm not sure I can tell the difference most of the time
though.
So yes, mono subs are quite common.
Cheers,
Chris.

im not sure about the new basic db active speakers but in the past all the db speakers
are advertised at maximum output and not rms ie: 275w rms 550w peak 1x15
i have tried contacting db in the uk but no answer.
but check this out
db Technologies :: Basic 200 Active Speakers
2-Way Bi-Amp active loudspeakers with power LED. Newly developed bass drivers with paper cones, Improved transcient response and wider frequency range, smoother performance and improved clarity. Pre-Amp with Mic/Line, XLR input, sensitivity switch and gain Control. 12 inch woofer, 1 inch horn and 240+80 Watts music power.

Pre-Amp with Mic/Line, XLR input, sensitivity switch and gain Control. 12 inch woofer, 1 inch horn and 450+100 Watts music power.
so im sorry to say that what you thought was 550w rms is more likely 275w rms.
but the good news is
the sub i think you was looking at is 400w rms
db Technologies :: Sub 12 Speaker
Compact 12" active sub unit. Weighing in at just under 19Kg and kicking out an awesome 400watts RMS.

yeah
just came across that RMS vs max power differentiation while looking at the spec sheets... will have to have a look at the other units and see what they are quoting in......
looking at the specs for the SRM450's they quote in rms 400watts total...... so they are a more powerful ( yet heavier ) speaker.
again the FBT MAXX4a also quote at 400w for rms.... and are only 19kg.........

the FBT maxx4 active are only 16kg and the passive are 12kg
but thats what you pay for.
i paid £1,050 for my fbts 6 months ago but they are doing a very special offer at the mo. dj marky mark advertised the wholesale price last week and it made me
