In the light of discussions elsewhere on the forum i was just interested to see how you all see yourselves ! rolleyes.gif

I chose entertainer. I sing when doing karaoke but only if its not very busy although I do get the odd request to sing. If its straight dj then it will depend on the type of booking.

Can't vote as you can only tick one, and I am an entertainer and an artist cool.gif drama2.gif whistling.gif
DJGAVT
Entertainer I would say.

Come on who picked superstar? biggrin.gif
mikeee
I went for Artiste, as I can't sing or do magic.
paula
I tryed selecting God, but the screen went blank and something started laughing! sad.gif

I would say if you provide mobile disco entertainment, then you are an entertainer, now who picked Jukebox, I think that with the current mood Trev is i then it may well be him! wacko.gif
DJTREV
Spot on Paula!

I have never classed myself as an entertainer,I just play records/cd's that people want to listen/dance to.Or in the case of last night - NOT
DJTREV
My idea of an entertainer is somebody with a particular talent,be it singer/comedian/musician/magician.I honestly dont think what I do relies on any particular talent
AJS Mobile Disco
I went for entertainer especially if your doing childrens parties but last night was a bit of a juke box thing!

You entertaine people with your skills and knowledge, of course your entertainers!
People dance and sing to what you provide, thats entertainment. smile.gif

Yet you make a Pint disappear quickly enough! biggrin.gif

I selected entertainer. I've worked places which required the DJ to go out and do Adult orientated games, wet t-shirt competitions etc, so consider myself to be a DJ first and foremost, but also to be flexible enough to be more audience involved where the booking requires it. Oh and I learned to play the recorder at school - does that count? rolleyes.gif .

Hi

If you're not an entertainer, folks may as well just hire in a jukebox.

Trev, why don't you follow the advice in your Sig file "This is not a rehursel, this is it".

Keeping a crowd happy is entertainment, just because you don't fal into the catagory of joke telling or singing or impersonating, you're still keeping folks happy, "entertaining them".

scared.gif Who selected God?
brianmole
I would select GOD, but I am not religious. I guess it has to be entertainer, although I am not the kind of DJ who is in the face of the audience.

Well, obviously, Paula!
It should have read "Goddess" for you. whistling.gif

By the way, I think we are entertainers. You have to interact with your audiense to an extent at any gig.
DJTREV
Yes you are right Darren, I should but I'm afraid I dont really live up to my sig.Do I.
I am like Brianmole,I am not one to be in the face of my audience
brianmole
By the way, I do interact when appropriate, but not constantly which is what I am getting at. My wifes friend went to a xmas party where the DJ was constantly out in front of his rig making a plum of himself, clowning and singing etc... Apparently, his efforts were not at all apreciated by his poor audience, and he was labelled a bit of a sad tw** who thought he was THE entertainer. Net result, poor feedback to the venue who booked him and an empty dancefloor.

Interestingly, I have had about a dozen enquiries this last 12 months where the B&G had been exposed to such a DJ in the past, and wanted a DJ who did not do these antics, but concentrated on hitting the right music instead. The ones that booked gave me excellent feedback, and their parties were memorable.

We are there partly to entertain, but more for the audience to enjoy a good dance to the right music. Obviously, for a kids do, the entertain bit has to be very big, but for a wedding, minimal works best in my experience.
Kingy
I chose "Entertainer".

I just see it as the DJ's job to co-ordinate the music in an appropriate style to match the audience, there fore He/She becomes the Entertainer.

I don't see myself out front demonstrating dance routines etc ever! fear.gif

I picked superstar simply becuase I saw the title, assumed there were only 2 options so when voting cliked that striaght away without thinking as I wouldnt consider myself to be a jukebox.

I guess i'm more of an entertainer/artiste.
Paul Smith
I went for 'Entertainer' because apparently I do wacko.gif not intentionally but when the music plays I can't help dancing/singing (not on the mic) along with it. It's not something I do as an act or to impress but I do believe that it helps others to enjoy themselves.

PaulS
partychris
im same as brian i dont spend too much time out in front, only to really introduce the Bride and groom and to say good night to them at the end, apartb from that i stay behind my decks and entertain with the music... i just cant make dogs out of balloons? 533.gif

Must be entertainer....

A juke box plays whatever the person putting in the coins selects.

An entertainer, chooses what they feel the room will either dance to or singalong to, every room has some people who will dance and a proportion of people who will tap their foot, or sing along, or jig about at their table or at the bar.

Suppose you could argue that if the client wants something they get it so we are not that removed from a jukebox, but we always tell our clients that you have to let the DJ have some artistic licence over what is played, and that requests are only that, we never promise to play every request that comes in, if it dont fit with the people who are dancing etc then it dont get played period...
