Bought two of the Hexagonal cluster sound to light units form Maplins in a sale last year. Not really used them as they look crap.

New Life cool.gif
Purchased the following
Two pine shelf blanks from B&Q 1740x300mm £8.95 each
one shelf blank 900x300mm
One can satin black plasticote spray paint.
2 x 2.1m 34x18mm softwood

Cut two 300x140mm from the 900mm blank
Cut the two 2.1 m to 1710mm
On the front edge (this will be on the inside when finnished to stop the light units falling out of the front) of the 1740 glue and screw the 1710x34x18 leaving a 15mm gap at each end. Do this to both 1740 lengths.
Glue and screw the 300x140 to each end of one 1740 where the 15mm gap was left to make the sides of the box.

Now

Take all of the bulbs out of the light clusters and unplug the cables from the control unit.
Disassemble the hexagonal clusters. They can be very tight so be careful.
Now reconnect them in a straight line with the contollers on each end.
Check fitment in the "box"
If all ok glue and screw the top 1740x300 to the sides (remove lights first)
Check your joints and when set Spray the whole thing Black.

When the paint is dry refit the joined light units into the box.
Cut 5 140x33x18 to brace the box and hold the light units in place.
locate and screw the braces in place.

Reconnect the lights by connecting EVERY OTHER connection the the other control unit ie swap every other connection this will make it look like one unit and not two seperate units.

Replace the bulbs, switch on and adjust the units to suit your needs.

This unit fits perfectly on the bottom brace of the sides of a 1.7 meter Ultimate stand it has the bonus of acting as a shelf too.
I think it gives a great front floor light effect when the units are adusted correclty

Total conversion cost was £30 and about 2hrs work to complete it.

Lights look cool.

Is that a mixing desk you have rather than a DJ mixer?

And what are those new Cerwin Vegas like?
Jimbo55
Thanks for the comments thumbup.gif

I use the desk for my karaoke. My wife bought it for me for Xmas. It works very well and has more than enough inputs. This is its down fall. I would have purchased the 3000 as it fits into a rack case. I will use it where I think its neccessary. I am in the process of buying a new consol for karaoke with seperate amp. Having said that it will make an excellent spare for both karaoke and Dj. At 400+400 into 4ohms it provides enough power.

Use Numark CDN30 and Numark Dimension 3 amp for DJ. Going to buy a bigger amp soon and use this for karaoke (More headroom for the landlord at my biggest gig)

The Cerwin Vega's I love.gif them. I have used them 4 times (Only had then 3 weeks) now and people have commented on the audio. The subs add enough punch to make the beat 'felt' but not at the expense of losing the mid range clarity. Got a big gig (for me! 350) in three weeks, so I will find out then if they will do what I hope they are capable of. I have used just the tops and they work very well on there own. I will quite happily use them on there own in small venues.
I tested them against some JBL and although the JBL were just as good, the Cerwins beat them when 'tops only' in my opinion.

They look good,
I think i might try that. Have been looking for a Chaser unit but have found that you dont have much control on how fast they chase and ends up looking like a strobe light. But with the hexagon lights u got control over that. I got the whole week off work so think i might attempt that one!

Thanks goodjob.gif thanks.gif
