I was just wondering how many of you out there actually offer a reduced rate for kids discos or do you all just have set prices?

oops.gif Somebody move my poll to the correct topic PLEEEEASE oops.gif

There you go - Moved

As long as the kids disco is normally 2 hours long, finnishes by 6pm on a premium night, there is a discount. Because i can then go on to another show a do a "proper disco" biggrin.gif
DJ Marky Marc
I dont normaly do kids discos, i like to pass them onto somone else whos much better at keeping the little horrors busy and wont want to throw them through the nearest fire exit for fighting biggrin.gif
mikeee
I think, the wording should be "do you have a different rate for childrens parties" answer yes.
C.S
dont do them !
otronics
With Mikeee, I do them at a different "rate"
Digital discos
I do a cheaper rate for kid's parties.

I mean I don't find them particularly difficult to keep entertained. Children under 10 I suggest to the client no more than 2 hours.

11-12 - 3 hours at a push

Then teenage parties I will do as long as the client wants, as the boredom factor doesn't really set in...

Out of curiosity Marky Marc- do you do teenage functions, I mean it's not like you have to play games. Surely it would be more up your street spinning new dance tunage and some rnb/pop?

Charge less if not interfereing with other gigs.

For those of you that dont do kids events... (i'm using "kids" to be under 13)

I do school discos. 1 of my yearly events is the end of term disco (prom) for the senior students. Because i did this a couple of years ago, the lower and middle schools now use me as well.

So what? your thinking...

Well, the lower and middle schools have the parents there - as the teachers can basically have a night off. Becuase of this, i have had many enquiries for "my son/daughters 18th" or "My uncles 30 next month" etc... etc... etc...

I too never used to do less that an 18th birthday. Then i had a son born 4 years ago, and i started doing kids and family parties... I now would not turn back as the work i get from them more than pays for the "cheaper" kids parties...

Hope this helps... thumbup.gif

I know a young lady 3 desks away who will do a much better job of kids discos than me! tongue.gif

I will do 18+ discos, same rate as weddings...

3 'kids' parties this week, first one is school disco lasting two hours, second is another school disco where I set up and give a teacher the mic, he then plays games with the kids for 90 minutes of the two hour disco !!, thierd is another two hour gig, so six hours 'working', none interfering with other do's and I get paid for a Thurday evening between 5 and 7, also have another one next Wednesday afternoon between 2 and 4, so I can't see any problem.
Average price is £60 for two hours, would rather get £30 per hour playing records than £4.50 an hour in an office.
£5 per hour x 40 hours per week = £200
£30 per hour x 6 hours per week = £180 (plus 34 hours off !!), or another way is those 34 hours for £20 = £1.70 per hour. tongue.gif
I know that it is not regualr but thats the best bit of being self employed only, getting the work rather than waiting for it to arrive to you.

18 + for me thank you very much ! Turn down loads of work as it is,work sometimes all day with kids so dont want to even smell them at night ! Last under 18s gig i did i had to wade into a fight that junior was involved in. fear.gif

Do you find that being a woman amakes you really popular for kids discos?

djsounds

Chrispy
Kids seem to like me for some reason, but I can't stand them!. Damn, shame you can't pick and choose the people who like you wallbash.gif

However, I do work at events for them, if only to remind me never to have any kids of my own. My prices for non premium nights are reduced, however if they want me to work a Saturday Night, then the client pays the same regardless of whether it is Kids party or a Wedding Reception.

To keep the <12 's happy then usually it helps to keep them occupied with Games even 2 hours is a long time for say a group of 8 / 9 year olds who have a limited interest span. Glowsticks are a good incentive, keep the little sods from misbehaving if you make it clear that they wont get a glowstick if they carry on messing about.

There are several ideas for games on a pinned topic in the DJ Chat section smile.gif

Ah, CP, you have a soft spot
