I just thought I'd pass this on.
I recently bought of a set of the 4 ACME Dynamo's. They are only 100w each, but BOY are they good for the money. They come as a set of 4 with a free CA8 hand controller (I was really lucky, mine seemed to come with twice what they should have. I also got a CA6 and 6 DMX cables) you should get the 3 DMX cables though.
They are basically 4 channel, 10 gobo scanners with a single flat mirror on each unit (no seperate colour wheel I'm afraid) with pan and tilt on the mirror. The response to the sound is near spot on, and if you invert 2 of the scanners, they have some AMAZING pre-defined sequences.
If there was one downside to these... ok, perhaps 2 downsides... 1) I REALLY wish they were 250w for the same money, and 2) they're perhaps just a tad heady on the strobe effect in the built in shows, but as they're fully DMX 512 compatible, this shouldn't be a problem for most of you.
Prices vary dramatically, so look around! you can get them as low as £394 for the set upto a whopping £550, but DEFINITELY worth £400 - £450 IMHO.

I have a set of 4 of these. Ive used them once and thought they were well worth the £330 I paid for them.. I found the instruction booklet fairly useless for a novice like myself. How do you 'invert' two of them?

Dip switch 10 . NOT the master light (the LED that is not flashing) change switches on lights 2 & 4 then they will invert.

Jim,
They have no double hanging brackets, just the usual single one. I got mine from
Essex DJ who visited SEDA back in the summer. They are coming back to our next SEDA meeting in Maidstone on 22nd January 2006 *hint hint*, so you could pop down and take advantage of their special offers on the night
I think I am probably gonna get 2 more.
Cheers,
Brian

Had a set of these for a few months now, great lights for the price the optics are VERY good..
If you cant get hold of a set of these have a look at the NEW DYNATWINS 2 scans in one box, these were brought along to the SEDA meeting last night and are a very good light.
A little bigger than putting two dynamo scans side by side, but still the same build quality and same great optics !!
Another pluss side is less seetting up time as you only need to hang 2 units instead of 4 !! Have a look ! or as Brian said call the Dave's at Essex DJ !!

Used mine once and really liked them. I bought a case for my set from Discoworld. These gice a good pro looking show and are very light in weight. Definitely a good buy.

I am seriously loking at a set of these, but when demoed (is demoed a word?? is now) in the shop, I thought the strobe was far too bright and too quick and too often.
The Saturday Assistant says you can change the strobe effect using the controller that comes with them. Is he right??? (He's been wrong before)
I know I could add soem coloured dichroic glass to the open gobo, but that kind of defeats the object of having "new" lights. (Have done this on my Datamoons)
I have no wish to go DMX (well not quite yet anyway) but the strobing on these really puts me off.
Any help?

Yes, one of the modes does 'slow' programs without stobing, whilst another mode does 'fast' programs with stobing.
If you are in the southern counties, give me a bell, I'll demo the modes to you.

Unfortunately not Brian, I'm very midlands.
Might be worth another trip to the shop when the gaffer is about though.
what do you mean by slow program? Does that reduce the movement of the whole show?

You really need to play with the kit! It's not slow, just relatively slow compared to the quicker prog which includes strobing

if ya know what I mean!

Just go DMX.... if you can't make anything that looks good yet just do what I did and cheat.... download daslight, load up some of the scenes in that then copy the programming into the controller, will definately be buying daslight when I get the money though! lol

Just thinking aloud, I beleive I read somewhere that the Acme Dynamo is the best selling DJ product, so loads of us must have it, surely someone here can dem this to Dale King?

C'mon holler!

Buy the Stairville DMX 50 controller. Set the Acmes each to a different DMX address.
Read the Stairville manual (chauvet one is better) push a few buttons and you can have them as slow as you like. 10 or 20 seconds to do a full pan.
I bought a DMX 50 yesterday and within an hour I had a show up and running.
If you want absolute control then get the Stairville. About £80 from Thoman germany or £110 from ebay.

I was looking at these before I bought my colourscans. Although various retailers assured me that the 100w was very good I wasn`t convinced without actually seeing them in action. My colourscans are 250w and am well pleased with them.
However am please you like them.

ive got a pair of the dynatwins 100w. same as the dynamo but with twin heads.
compaired to my abstract gladiator 1ce barrel effects which are 250w the dynatwins win hands down on brightness.

Aparently, according to the shop that sold me mine, the twins have better software controlling the lights as well.
Don't know how this is, or how true it is.
