hi, i have just bought an acme falcon disco light and i just wanted to tell you all how gud it is. It produces a ring of really sharp gobos on the wall which all contract into the middle at random. the beams are very, very bright and it creates a dazzling effect, for £120 ish you cannot go wrong.

Do you find that they move too fast ?
I didnt buy any cos i though they looked like they moved to fast and flash. But it could be the poor demonstration i was given in the shop i visited

yup, the effect does indeed move fast, but i run it off a dmx board and i can get it to show just a slowly rotating ring of changing gobos which is great for slowies, then when it really gets goin i can set up the board to run the light fast and the effetcs produced are amazing, in particular the squeeze effect which is brilliant and the strobing is surprisingly effective too, but this can be written out by dmx controll if you dont think it is suitable, hope this helps

I also own a pair of Falcons and they are superb lights. Glass gobos, sharp beams and work well to fill a dance floor!

I got one for my first piece of dancefloor lighting equipment. it really races along!!! looks great tho'. now all i need is a couple of other flashers to compliment it.
it seems to look better projected onto the roof rather than onto the floor. being new to the game, i have no idea what dmx is? could be useful to slow it down.

Hi there - firstly WELCOME TO DJs United, the forum for UK mobile DJ's
DMX, whilst sounding like a old teenage biking trend from the 1980's which the council have only just responded to, by putting up a wooden ramp in the corner of a playing field last month, is a control language used by some lighting and some controllers. Generally, when you hear the term "intelligent lighting", its normally referring to DMX.
I'm about half way (ok, I lied) 30% of my through writing a DJs United Article covering setting up, programming and using DMX - so watch this space.
In the meantime, as you're new to the forum, feel free to take a look around (we've got a search facility), add your questions, comments and views to existing threads, and of course, feel free to start your own threads if you've got questions, or information that the other 2500+ members would enjoy, or will be able to help you with. Its a two way street - and we're all happy to help.
Welcome to DJU.

i have had 2 falcon lights for quite a few months now they are excellent lights either projected on the ceiling or direct onto the dance floor, very bright, great colours and worth every penny !

I bought two of these lights on Saturday and used them in the evening. For the money, they are very good quality and produce a different type of lighting effect that complement your usual disco lighting. I hadn't read these comments before, as it was an impulse purchase, but am pleased to see that others agree that they are great lights. They are very responsive and are probably best switched off for slow dances, unless DMX controlled.
Cheers, Ian

Ian i saw you comment about the units being very responsive and are probably best switched off for slow dances, unless DMX controlled !!
you dont have to splash out on a DMX controller to use them for slow dances just get yourself a Acme CA-8 handheld controller !!
With this you can select and gobo (the heart is good for a first dance) and it will just rotate ! then when the party starts just press another button and the light is sound ativated, also has a blackout button !
This controller costs only £25 !! also can be linked to any other Acme products !

Thanks for the comments - I got a small controller with the lights, which does exactly what you say. It was the first time I had used these lights, so will have to practice with them!

I was recently helping out with a friend's mobile gig and he owns 2 of these effects. Yes they move very fast, but in a big open hall it gives a great effect... I'd say it's typically a light that most mobile DJs would be seen using for gigs...

Glad this thread popped up, ive just bought two of them, and really happy!
but would like to know what dmx controller slows them down and ables you to cut out some stuff you may not want? The hand held function (ca8) is a bit basic

Pretty much any DMX controller will be able to.. But you'll hafta program the scenes in yourself..
