I have been a Deejay for nearly 30 years & have had a regular supply of work but recently i have been offered work at a Karaoke bar in zante what do you think i should do. I have no problems with the singing bit to start the night off but im not sure if i can handle all those lovely people killing all that classy music rolleyes.gif

Itttttt's gonna hurt!!! especially if you actually like the song someone is killing but after a while you'll get used to it and then you'll come to the stage of actually not knowing what the orignal sounded like in the first place wacko.gif

When that happens I would suggest letting Andy know which song in paticular as he will gladly remind you of it's orignal at some ridiclous hour in the middle of the night so you never forget again!!!!!!! bash.gif

I used to do karaoke and in my opinion it has changed from what it used to be especially with the likes of pop idol etc etc rearing its head!!!!

Have fun and good luck!

Karaoke in Zante?

Is it purly aimed at the UK audience or will you have to do a multi-national set? Like German, Austrian, Greek etc...

I used to DJ in Ibiza (the nice part! tongue.gif ) and there it was quite easy to get people partying as the atmosphere is there before you even start - but any Karaoke nights did struggle, as a lot of people like to be entertained BEFORE they do anything - It IS their holiday after all.

So be prepared to DJ quite a bit at the start of the night and only KJ for the last few hours....

It WILL be fun but as Paula says, when people are killing the songs, even ones you dont really like - it does get painful.... And mindreading helps as a lot will say "that song from Grease, you know the one that Olivia and John sing?" together... wallbash.gif wallbash.gif

I took the kids there last year, the karaoke is definitely aimed at the Brits, but hey it’s nice and warm and the beer is cheap. beer.gif

Have fun.

Sit down and weigh up the options for you. If you have more positive reasons than negative then you'll probably gain a lot from the experience.

What are your circumstances?, will you be giving up other employment to go abroad?, what bookings are you committed to in the UK in this period?, do you have any existing regular work which you could run the risk of losing if you went abroad?, would it have a detrimental effect on your disco locally?.

Perhaps the main temptation is rushing of to the holiday atmosphere and long sunny days and warm nights but forgetting what you have left behind. In other words, could your business suffer in the UK because you have left it for 6 months?. Don't forget, you'll need work for the other 6 months when you return!.

Often the best solution is to leave somebody trustworthy to run and promote your mobile disco whilst you are away, so you have a fully up and running business to return to. Otherwise there is nothing a competitor would like more than to see you leave the country for 6 months scared.gif .
