Interesting!. Maybe Rick should run a poll entitled "Guess how old Nine Lives is?!" wink.gif wink.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I always remember at age 19, thinking that I would be too old for D.J'ing at 30. Now I'm almost 30 my "retirement" has been put off until 40!! wink.gif and when I'm 40 I'll.....well you get the picture!

One thing that hasn't changed is that at 19 I thought that I'd be ancient at 30.....How right I was mad.gif

Almost Too old for an 18-30 holiday!, I guess this year it'll be a deck chair and bucket of sand from Jewsons in the back garden ohmy.gif

As far as D.J'ing is concerned - as long as you can carry the gear around (or pay somebody to) then you don't have to retire yet. When we start talking about how young the D.J's are "Nowadays" then it's time to buy the "oil of ulay" and find the spade to "dig up" some old friends ph34r.gif

Save you all guessing I am on the wrong side of my 40's! wacko.gif

Thought I might just join in on this one.
I am 62 going on 32 this year. I have no intention of jacking it in and sitting at home with my hot chocolate by the TV. wink.gif

You'd be surprised Kev, I have walking living proff of it.
Old dj's and retired dj's from my experience never leave the music side of it , mine is well on the ball, so much so I could be put to shame! fear.gif

But quite usefull to have hanging around biggrin.gif
tonyj
as long as you can still communicate and connect with the audience, you'll never be too old.... may look out of place................

Oy... I have never pulled a bird at one of my gigs.. and have no intention of doing so thank you very much!.

As long as you connect with the crowd, dont dress yourself up to look so a right old bit of mutton... male or female... and you know your stuff then long may you continue.

If you dj into your 60s/70s - as long as you dont keep one foot in the past then carry on!..... Actually, ask Mikeee... he used to have a TVDJA member who was probably the oldest dj in the world ! (or was that mikeee himself!!)
C.S
44 here, and mrs s dont like me pulling the birds, i am way too old but refuse to admit it,am considering becoming a pro basketball player in the u.s. and finally getting to use my height. In all seriousness i have seen 21 year old djs who are too old so i think its individual.I have no intentions of stopping yet but who knows? kid.gif
Tonsk
I'm in the same boat as Chris... I am gonna be 30 in January scared.gif and as such think yeah, i'll stop when I'm 40 - yeah - right..

As long as you can still connect with the crowd and carry the equipment - You're fine..

When you feel you're too old and can't carry / lift that speaker then possibly its time to hang up the headphones..

But mainly it's when the joy has gone out of it... Thats the real time to quit....
Ian Stewart
god 30, I wish

me I'm 39 in January, and most of the time I feel like I'm 21, but occasionally I feel about 80

As Aaliyah once sang "age ain't nothin but a number"!
I'm gonna be 40 in a couple of weeks but it don't bother me in the slightest. I'm a lot luckier than most as I've always looked very young (wasn't so great though when I was a kid sad.gif ) and most people when they meet me seem to think that I'm in my late 20's, so this probably helps when I work in clubs. It's quite funny when I do the specialist soul nights, in which I'll often go pretty deep into soul from the 70's & 80's. Probably about 3 or 4 times a night I'll get someone come up to me and ask "how does someone so young know this music?" smile.gif

I don't feel much different physically to how I did in my 20's and I still play football twice a week and a few other sports, however mentally I have the added advantage now of some experience, so it seems to me to be the perfect situation biggrin.gif

When I hit 30, I was miserable for days. I had convinced myself all through my 29th year that 30 was just a number and all that it meant was that I was another year older!, but when I hit 30, it was like something just crossed over 014.gif .

They say 30 is the age of decisions, and i'm still not sure what I want to do 533.gif or if I want to be in this industry until I retire, not to mention that my recently met G/F is making Marriage Hints, and my Mother making Grandchild hints as well! scared.gif . Maybe I'll put off the decision making until i'm 40! or just find a nice comfy cave and become a hermit! rolleyes.gif

It would appear that you blokes are far more concerned with the age thing than us girlies!! Mind you, I remember a while ago Paula telling me about some old bint in a DJ and dickie bow (female) who looked totally riduclous.... mind you I know its more a "mans job" but we dont have to go that far do we..... so, if ever I look like I am contemplating the idea of dressing as a man I have given Paula full permission to contact Trinny & Sussanah!
DJTREV
As I have stated before I am 62 and I have put too much time effort and money into this game to stop now.
I find disco punters in the main are bloody hard work but I still get lots of buzz from this business.
Besides when I am doing my Jive nights I get to dance with some really lovely young woman. Now that really is a buzz!

err what the bleedin hell are you going on about?

At 45 i can say i dont really care about my age all that much and that i am going to do exactly what i want to do as long as my wife lets me! The alternative to getting old does not appeal to me all that much so i am going for it! biggrin.gif

Hi folks
I'm 44, have only just started Djing a couple of years ago to keep Adam company, (he's 17) now we're a team. sterb188.gif
I dont feel my age, I still listen to Radio 1 more than any other station and enjoy the music (honest) especially the likes of Pete Tong,Judge Jules etc.. rolleyes.gif
On the other hand I like to listen to anything from the 50's onwards.
Paula's right about carrying equipment you just get clever, I've just made a skate out of a bit of ply and four casters (most places now have wheelchair access) and just wheel everything in and out.
Our kids were born when we were in our 20's and I think that has helped me & the missus to stay feeling young.
There is truth in the old saying life begins at 40. We're having a better time now than when we were married ! thumbup.gif
Ps. LIVE LIFE LIKE EVERYDAY IS YOUR LAST !!! beer.gif

I wish they did around here ! , wheelchair access seems to be the exception sad.gif

We use 2 sack barrows stairs permiting ! , one of them is a BlacknDecker barrow that goes both ways wub.gif laugh.gif

2 wheeled or folded down to a flatbed on 4 castors, useful for speakers , or Chris's Blue boxed Colour Scans !!! 1028.gif laugh.gif

I did try "borowing" a large deep shopping trolley from a DIY store , with permision of course rolleyes.gif , to use for wheeling in all the lights smoke machine etc , but soon gave that idea up as it took 2 of us to lift the loaded trolley into the van , and even that was a struggle laugh.gif

What do you mean? one of there roll palletes? where the sides and base fold inwards!

You need to go and mouch around a supermarkets carpark! The home shopping drivers bring out crates of shopping on these hard thick plastic wheels thingmeo's!
light enough to sort of borrow and big enough to move things about on! wacko.gif A bit like the wheel thingmeo's you find under bread crates, but twice the size

Dynamite Discos
if they still play the right music for a particular event - and dont break their backs on loading the van then there is no such thing as too old to DJ. especially for events for older people. ive seen some really old djs at weddings etc put on a fantastic show - the ones ive seen do tend to have some rather dated equipment but that is only a few so i couldnt brand a stereotype on "the older DJ".

Some of us 'more mature' DJ's are using cutting edge technology, and damn its sharp!
