Ehh... No way, If you gonna shell out 60 quid go get a 65 quid USB Maya EX 5.1 soundcard.
In my gig machine I have a soundblaster live 24 bit 5.1 card it's perfect...

Have you ever tested the maya? It's anything but lagging.. The quality beats any internal card any day. PCI cards are no way near as good, as the rear output is a lot lower level which is a pain in the butt for djing. The maya are all equal levels.
It's a professional choice, why do you think a lot of top music engineers used external cards like the tascam, the maya etc.
What do you mean you can easily fit a maya with a little patience into a 3.5" bay or 5" bay.

I have a Maya EX and there a great USB card. USB isn't laggie, lag will happen when you overload your pc, 2 powerfully program/playing searched music while playing the main tracks etc...
The sound is great and the fact that its usb means it can sit in the box behind the mixer and only one cable ones out to the pc.
Try before you buy, make sure you stick in the modern day stuff,
if you want sound quality thats blows any card these guys are talking about bout buy a DIGI002 Rack or the 001.

Some people just arn't taking full advantage of the cue functions in ots, only joking..................................
As I suppose if you don't wanna mix you don't need one really.

And if version 2 actually comes out thiis year....
... We will all be out of a job !!!

But seriously... Even the cheapo cards have a half decient quality now.
But i personally use Soundblaster cards and Yamaha Pro cards (expensive tho). Any good soundblaster 5.1 + will do, but how many inputs / ouputs do you need?

The Maya EX7 is the best traditionalist card on the market.
Just because it is connected via USB means nothing to the actual reliability. Do the math - an mp3 will only need around 10Kb per second to stream reliably. Even a USB 1.1 interface under extreme load (from your mouse??) will cope with that.
My main worry comes from the fact that once I decided to browse these PC DJ'ing discussions, I get an attempted peering connection from 212.159.8.1 - cops.co.uk / Absolute Marketing UK on port 80. As I see these posts are moderated could I ask the moderator who reads this to let me know what this connection is for and what it is trying to gain from me as I find no 'agreement' to allow this to happen in the forum rules and regs.
Many thanks

Tech, I just approved your post, but i do not know of any reason why you should be getting any peering connection, I have checked all my ports and I am not getting any connections when joining any of the discussions ?

Of course someone knows my IP address! Apart from the fact I have 10 fixed IP addresses here, every site I visit needs to know where to send the web page I want - back to!
This isn't spyware per-say. This is an inbound connection to my machine that is initiated by the site I am visiting. Visit
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/index.php and have a look at what they say (run by a UK guy too!). Protowall is the product you want to be looking at.
Whilst you're there, scan down the left-hand edge of the page and you'll see some interesting facts about your machine!

And that it does not know your IP address simply from visiting...

Of course, in the last 2 or 3 weeks, we've seen Numark be one of the first pro-DJ companies to release a proper DJ quality mixer with USB connections built-in to take away the need for guesswork, cables and budget associated with external soundcards.
Their CM200 USB mixer is just the first of 3 or 4 Numark Mixers to offer USB on-board, for direct connection from a PC or Laptop.

Thats coz its so new - Numark debuted the CM200USB at the DJs United MAX back at the beginning of Feb, just 4 days after the only unit landed in the UK !
I should be able to post the specs in the next few hours. They're at home. (and I'm not).

It should be a good spec, it will almost certainly be an Alesis design as Numark and Alesis are co-owned.

Not yet! But I'm reviewing the unit currently - so if theres a bit of software out there that carefully listens to the throughput and compares it with the file that went in...that could be handy...
The manual and paperwork that I had at home did'nt have the specs in it and
to be fair, Numark DID send through the "general specs" to me on the same day that I asked for them - however, those specs covered all the usual Phono sensitivity, Mic Signal/Noise ratio, Master output Mv's at 0db etc,etc,etc...in fact, virtually everything except the sound cards.
But fear not, if I can get'dem soundcard specs, I'll get dem soundcard specs. I would suspect that its just the sort of thing that several DJ's would want to know, at least compared to say the good ol' Soundblaster Audigy Ext. USB lump.
