I like rock music...I love drums and guitars...I really like The Dandy Warhols' "Bohemian Like You".

To me, it sounds like a nice boppy tune that I could easily move to. The video backs me up - lots of guys'n'gals "bopping". Therefore, I sometimes slip it into a rocky, dancy, 90's bit of the night. Yet it never seems to pull much of a reaction from the floor.

Does anyone else play it? Do you get a good response? Does anyone recommend NEVER playing it again? What do you play it with?

Generally, I'll play it along with G'n'R, Feeder, Oasis, Manics, Franz, White Stripes, etc. I used to play it with Sum 41, Green Day and Offspring but I think that crowd preferred things a little heavier.

What do you think? Am I wrong in my interpretation of the song? Should I drop it or just change the mix I drop it into?

Thanks.

personaly its a listening tune not a get up and dance tune.......

i think you answered your own question with the dance floors reaction.......
Kingy
I like the tune, but dont think I would play it.

What the hell do you two know about music anyway? tongue.gif

its more of a sway along tune really, not quite the thing i have seen people to dance to.

I would throw in something like

alright - supergrass
park life - blur
girl from mars - ash

something along those lines maybe. But a crowd will be a crowd hey??

to be honest, i wouldn't play anything like that only if they asked for it, i just stick to the usuall, "all right now",

summer of 69,
bon jovi, and stuff like that

thanks guys. i guess this must be a case of me wanting to play something I would dance to.

i expect it would go down well in sway situations like crowded pubs and the like.

PS might play Blur's "Girls and Boys" tonight - is that a dancey song or a...oh, forget it, pass me The Mavericks would you... biggrin.gif

Girls & Boys does sometimes work but I find that "There's no other way" usually goes down really well with that type of crowd.
I personally like the Dandy-Bohemian track but never actually play it at gigs, I guess mainly cos when it was out it was never a track that made people rush onto the dancefloor, even people that were into that style of music.
YourBigEvent
Never played it.

Do you want to do the gig we spoke about on the telephone....................PLEASE !! laugh.gif

Tried it on saturday along with the levellers, blur, killers and green day and it worked well.

Hi

Played it once at a gig where they wanted that kinda rubbish tongue.gif cleared the floor.

If I'm doing an up to date rock set I tend to include.

Darkness, I believe in a thing called love
Green Day, American idiot
Bowling for Soup, girl all the bad boys want

Then to get back into pop

Busted, Teenage kicks
McFly, 5 colours

Never had a bad reaction.

Yes Big Ben - we play it quite a bit, at our regular restaurant one guy always requests it and his table get up to it. We also play it for the younger 18ish age group before going either towards McFly/Busted or Bryan Adams/Bon Jovi depending on the crowd. For the record I think it's a wicked track.
Dukesy
Thank goodness for the Stones, eh?!!!!
Other Follow Ups ( please experiment !!!)

Brown Sugar
Start Me Up
etc,etc.

I like the track too! Have used it mainstream during a gig (request) but not played at regular / typical gigs.
Will dig it out!

Thanks for all the replies guys. I guess I can conclude that it is more killer than filler and I should only ever play it when it is requested.

Bugger.

I still bloody well like it though. biggrin.gif

Dont play it peak time but Ive incorporated it into a mix with stuff like Santana - Smooth, Stereophonics - Have A Nice Day, U2 - Beautiful day for more upbeat 'background' tracks...

Agree it is a good tune tho
